"Faith has eyes. It has three eyes. The seer who is looking at the world from the perspective of monistic Saiva Siddhanta and sees clearly the final conclusions for all mankind has faith in his perception, because what he sees and has seen becomes stronger in his mind as the years go by. We have the faith of those who have two eyes upraised. They look at the seer as Dakshinamurti, God Himself, and gain strength from His every word." --Gurudeva Bodhinatha is in Michigan today. He and Shanmuganathaswami are having really action packed days and don't have a moment to send news or photos. But from brief phone messages all is going well. Today they went to the Kasivishwanatha Temple in Flint Michigan. ~~~~~~~~~ END OF PHASE Today is the last day of our phase This edition of TAKA will remain posted Over our coming three-day retreat, Until Tritya Tithi, Sun One, Saturday, June 5th Bodhinatha's next travel is to Atlanta, Georgia, and Bethesda, Maryland. Please visit his travel page for more information.
It was a blissful morning on this sacred Vaikasi Vishakam day. Muruga Abhishekam in the temple at 6 AM... The milk abhishekam of Lord Muruga. Haro Hara! The other-worldly power and energy of Lord Muruga fills the temple. Chanting His names... Our silpis join us this morning for the whole puja. Meditating in the aftermath... We did get this one great photo of Dharmalingam Siddhan with his mother-in-law, wife and daughter. It was one of the many darshan meetings with Bodhinatha in Bethesda, Maryland We had two tour groups today. The first one brought 65 people of all walks of life. Later another group of ten came through. Various shades of sankalpa ("intention") bring people here: "I live down the street and I've never visited and wanted to see what you are doing." "I heard about the big crystal." "I just saw your monastery mentioned in the Kauai Guide Book." "I read some of your things on the internet and wanted to know more about Hinduism." "Someone told me you had a fabulous garden here. I came to see the garden." "I am a subscriber to Hinduism Today for the past 10 years and always wanted to see where the 'grace' originated." ....and many more... To touch hand carved stones from India is a rare experience for most of these people. Lord Siva in many forms...
The silpis are struggling to move this giant pillar by hand... Blocks, levers, a lot of strength and strategy gets the job done. Typically, they move stones in minute increments, a quarter of an inch at a time... The goal is to lift up the pillar, insert blocking to raise the ends enough for them to go to work on fitting the ends. Now, that is a hammer! OK, the ends of the pillar were successfully raised up off the foundation. Now, back to the never ending chipping. This is silpi Chinnu who does all kinds of jobs around the site. He is a very sweet and humble person, and also cooks for the silpis. Sishya Hitesvara Saravan writes to us from the Big Island of Hawaii: " Thought I'd send a picture of what's happening today about 20 miles south of us from the current active volcanic crater Pu'u O'o which is situated 13 miles South South West of us. First ocean entries in about a year. We went last week and got within a foot of red lava but then it hadn't progressed all the way to the ocean."
every day. Visit the Master Course site!
