Being Passively Aggressive

Today Gurudeva explains the spiritual concept of being "passively aggressive," how to be aggressive when the time is right to accomplish a goal, but how also to be passive when resistence comes and obstacles appear. That is the time when one should pull his forces back in.

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. It is April 2nd and we are back after a 3-day retreat, reflecting on the past and planning out the future.

A question has come up, "Is it alright to be passive in an aggressive age?"

Well, I always say, be passively aggressive. Reach out as far as you can. But, if you get opposition or argument comes up, then be passive. Because, you can waste a lot of time arguing. You can waste a lot of time dodging people, dodging situations. Look for a clear time to move ahead aggressively and look for the proper times to pull back into yourself and let it be. That is why we have retreats. Every four or five days, we have a 2-day retreat, sometimes 3 days as we did just recently. That is our passive time. The rest of the time, we try to be spiritually aggressive, driven by soul power. Not driven by intellectual power, not driven by instinctive power but driven by soul power.

So, like the ebb and flow of the waves, the ebb and flow of the wind, it is passive and aggressive. If we live our life like that, happiness is assured. Sometimes, we can push a project uphill and it slides right back down on top of us. No way to live.

Meditate on being passive and being aggressive. Keep a balance in life. Many people, especially in the West, are aggressive all the time and ppfff ... they are dead from a heart attack. The laws of the physical body, the laws of the emotional body, the laws of the intellectual body and the laws of the spiritual body are all a little bit different but harmonize together if we live a balanced life. That is the idea here, to live a balanced life.

Be aggressive when the time is right, move ahead. Be passive waiting for the time to be right to move ahead. That is our meditation for today.
