நாமஞ் சொல்லுவோம் நமனை வெல்லுவோம்
நாமே அவனென்று நடந்து செல்லுவோம்

சோம சுந்தரன் பாதங் காணுவோம்
சும்மா விருக்கின்ற சூட்சம் பேணுவோம்

சினத்தைக் கொல்லுவோம் மனத்தை வெல்லுவோம்
அனைத்து மவனென்று அகத்தி லெண்ணுவோம்

கையில் மலர்கொண்டு காலை மாலையும்
செய்ய மேனியன் அடியில் வீழுவோம்

என்பு பூண்டவன் என்னை யாண்டவன்
இவனை வேண்டினால் என்று மின்பமே

சிரித்து முப்புர மெரித்த தேவனை
சிந்தை செய்குவோர் தேவ ராவரே

கமல நான்முகன் கண்ணன் காண்கிலான்
எமது நாயகன் என்பர் பெரியரே

வழிகள் இரண்டையு மடைக்க வல்லவர்
ஒழியா இன்பத்தி லுற்று வாழ்வரே

தேனும் பாலினு மினிய தெய்வத்தை
நானும் நீயுமாய் நாளும் போற்றுவோம்

name - we'll say - the God of Death - we'll win
we indeed - are He - thus - walk - we'll go

Somasuntharan (1) - feet - we'll see
still - being - secret - we'll respect

anger - we'll kill - mind - we'll conquer
everything - He is, thus - inside - we'll think

with hands - bearing flowers - morning - and evening
pure - bodied one - at the feet - we'll fall

bones - He who wears - me - He who rules
to Him - if prayed to - always - bliss, indeed

with a smile - three worlds (2) - burnt - the God
contemplate - those who do - will become devas

lotus - Four-Faced One (3) - Kannan (4) - cannot see
our - Lord - thus, say - elders

paths - both (5) - to close - those who are able
never ending - bliss - soaked in - they will live

honey and - milk too - sweeter than - the God
I and - you also - every day - will praise

1) Sohmasuntharan : Another name for Siva. In Madurai the presiding deity is referred by this name.
2) muppura : Three worlds, namely, physical world, astral world and God's world.
3) kamala naanmugan : Refers to the lotus-born, four-faced Brahma.
4) kannan: Another name for Vishnu. This line refers to the story when Brahma and Vishnu set out to find the beginning and the end of the form that Siva took as a Pillar of Light.
