Introduction

Among the audio files we have digitized and which ended up in the GITA archives are many that need no transcription. But we are required to log them into our system. This is the only we can see later in the catalog that such and such a tape has indeed been listened to, reviewed. Without an entry it simply appears as missing, and there is no way to see that is not Gurudeva talking. :

The criteria for not requiring transcription are:

1) inaudible, or sound quality is so challenging as to make transcription an "onerous task" ranging from simply hard to hear, forcing you to listen, over and over again, or simply impossible to know what he is saying.

In these case we DO NOT want our transcribers wasting too much time on these.

2) not really Gurudeva talking, (some other monk..indian person etc.) 3) music, shum chanting.

I think this may be the first time you are facing this issue. So, here is what you do:

You download the sound files as usual "View and Download" and then you download the files... then as usual "Select Audio File"... and then "Play" ... now once you determine (and you may need to fast forward to check the whole tape to make sure Gurudeva is not talking later) that it is not Gurudeva (or that it is music or inaudible.

You just write in the place where you would normally type the transcript, some other descriptive comments:

e.g.

"This is not an upadesha by gurudeva. It is just shum chanting from beginning to end."

Then go to the "header" and enter everything as best you can... but you will see there that there is an option for "Not and Upadesha" Up where you normally select "Gurudeva" or "bodhinatha"

Also there is a similar category to choose. Then you fill in the subject "Shum chanting All the way through"

And you should also say something in the description field below... you can just cut and paste the subject:

Don't forget to put location: "unknown" is fine.

"Shum chanting all the way through"

Then, as usual, "Post to Kauai and Save"
