Iraivan Temple Construction Update – June 1st

Aum Namah Sivaya

Today is a bright, dry and sunny day at the aadheenam. Perfect for construction efforts. A tour of Iraivan Temple reveals the quickening progress on the lava rock wall which surrounds the temple foundation. All along the east side we already have two layers of stone in place and work has begun on the western side as well. The angles this rock wall requires are complex, yet they present a natural simplicity. On other fronts, or on THE front, rather, the temple's entry steps have gained some more completed steps. Not too many left to go before Iraivan's grand stairway is compete. Aum.

The opening shot of Yoginathaswami standing there as a witness to what we have all been visualizing for decades takes my breath. From the days of Dr. Mehta & Dr. Langly meeting with our planning commission, our building department and getting them to understand first and then actually sign off on an ancient concrete mix transcending current building requirements with no rebar is a miracle in itself – this followed by the first concrete truck pulling up and Gurudeva having a monk chime a huge gong each time the next one arrived brings added joy and glory to this moment. 4 million pounds of concrete and two decades later of countless challenges – one after another – we finally arrive here as a measure of the power of vision, the will, and persistence Gurudeva infused in his monks. It is a massive step in bringing the reality of Iraivan into this moment – Yoga in action and testimony to the power of what can be accomplished in small dedicated numbers.
