The Bengaluru Team Pushes Hard

Even in normal times, getting complex things done in India is, to be gentle about it, challenging. With the expected return of our silpis to Kauai in October, it has become critical that the last two containers be loaded and shipped. Trouble was, the craftsmen making key items for Iraivan Temple were dragging their feet. Promising but not performing. When Jiva and his sons, Thurai and Senthil, realized the urgency, they went to work, using the willower Gurudeva instilled in them for decades.

They took a three-day jaunt to Kumbhakonam, where the metal shop is located, and told the sthapatis they would not leave until Iraivan's items were finished. It worked! After three days all was in readiness to be shipped to Bengaluru. In this slideshow we see the results of their persistent push to get things done (remember, India is in the midst of a COVID rise).

Unexpected and wonderful embellishments. They are beautiful and inspiring, as is the example of Jiva and Sons’ persistence and push for performance of the craftsmen.

Nothing demonstrates the power of the Guru and the power of devotion like Jiva and his family. It’s an extraordinary story – when Gurudeva called out (over 30 years ago) to one of his most dedicated families, bankers in Maylasia, and asks them to pack their bags, leave everything behind and transform themselves into a major stone carving enterprise and temple building operation in India! I mean really this has got to go down as the biggest ookanashum (exercise given by the Guru) in modern history! The sons changing their majors, joining their father in a one-pointed pursuit to hand chip a white granite temple the way they did it in India 1,000 years ago! Bring into manifestation the physical form of Gurudeva’s vision! I mean really, what are the odds of pulling that off. I think Kanmani (Jiva’s wife) lived in a tent with a fire pit for two years until they got established! This is one of those fairy tale stories that is actually true – a story that will be passed on for generations to inspire grihastha family people looking for examples of how to serve their living Satguru.
