These have been focus-on-meditation months at Himalayan Academy. Specifically:

* dozens of classes on meditation were given by Bodhinatha
during the 2008 Innersearch pilgrimage which has just ended,

* a ground-breaking book on meditation was launched,

* and our new April-May-June 2008* issue is “All About Meditation.”

Here are highlights from this issue:

* Masters offer meditation insight and guidance in this 18-page treasure that will encourage the beginner and yogi alike. Here are much sought-after and rarely available basics, inspired definitions, delineations of basic goals, methods, principles, tips on overcoming obstacles and realistic rewards to expect.

* Do you sometimes feel stuck in just one tired way of looking at life?—don't have to! Bodhinatha describes the four distinct perspectives that are always available to us. He explains how we can look out at life from one perspective and then the other, which stimulates our understanding and ability to make good decisions.

* A profile of one of last century’s great saints, Sri Anandamayi Ma of Bengal, whom Swami Sivananda praised as “the purest flower the soil of India has ever produced.” The article is accompanied by striking vintage photos.

* A report on a state emporium complex in New Delhi that features arts-&-craft marvels from every state in India. An amazing overview of the best that comes from that country.

* One article warns of dangers of too much protein. New research concludes that moderation in protein intake is critically important to your health, even if you are vegetarian. Two other articles by ayurvedic physicians, Dr. Virender Sodhi and Dr. Pankaj Naram, elaborate on the same subject.

* If you delight in Hindu consensus and action, here’s your article. It covers a recent meeting of Hindu leaders in Florida. No, it was not just a lot of talk, and that is the point. Discussions led to positive decisions with concrete plans to implement. They decided, for example, to become dynamically proactive in helping the media learn what Hinduism is and is not—and work has already begun on material to be widely distributed to media editors. We will follow this up in coming newsletters.

* And much more... .

* “It was incredible! Still processing all that happened!”
* “Heavenly experiences with meditation and temple visits...”
* “I can't stop thanking Bodhinatha and everyone for this rich spiritual experience.”

Nearly 100 fulfilled participants have just concluded 2008’s Asian Odyssey Innersearch travel-study program. They journeyed with Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and other monks from our monastery to Cambodia (Angkor Wat), Malaysia (the festival mentioned above) and temples in Southern India. There were two “retreat” times along the way where the pilgrims remained in one place for several days and enjoyed meditation classes and ample opportunities for practice. The Innersearch programs provide a rare opportunity to get away from it all, relax and focus on spirituality. Find out more about Innersearch here.
