The is the home of the monastery’s Cook MP32 bandsaw mill. The two-acre area is dotted with hundreds of yet-to-be-milled logs and dozens of stacks of stickered lumber, tens of thousands of board feet of mango, camphor, lichee, koa, monkeypod and other tropical woods that the monks have milled from island trees over the past five years. This equipment enables the monks to utilize precious wood resources for construction and woodworking projects (including turned bowls) that would otherwise go into Kauai’s landfills.
