Legend says married ṛishis once lived in a forest. An ascetic, Lord Śiva, appeared, and the wives were smitten. The ṛishis conjured a tiger and an elephant to destroy Him, but Śiva donned them as sash and shawl, symbolizing the conquest of egoity. §
