Songs of Tayumanavar

Many the Garlands (5/10)

Why did Thou place in me
This ego that says I, I?
Why did Thou place in me
The karma, good and bad,
And in between the burden of this fleshly body?
Why did Thou place in me
The life, too?

Indestructable,
Pervading itself the cosmic universe entire
In all its diverse manifestations,
As the nectar of the bliss of jnana,
As milk, fruit, treacle of sugarcane
And candy of sugar
Thou tasteth sweet, sweet exceeding.
