A Hindu swami chats with Buddhist monks. They are near Mt. Kailash in the Himalayas. Hindus easily get along with all other religions. We honor and respect all religious people. They are our brothers and sisters. Tolerance is “the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs of others.” Hindus respect other religions and other religious practices. A good Hindu is a strong Hindu. He believes and practices what Hinduism teaches. He thinks, “Hinduism is the greatest religion in the world,” as Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami often said. But the Hindu does not say, “My religion is right and yours is wrong.” He never says, “My religion is better than yours.” We accept all religions as reflecting the truth of God in some form or another. We also accept people who choose not to follow any religion. We don’t try to convert anyone to Hinduism. But we do accept all those who want to join. There are many Hindu traditions that differ from our own. We respect their diverse beliefs and practices. Tolerance is a great power within Hinduism. It is a central reason Hinduism has thrived for so long. It is the reason Hinduism is respected today as one of the world’s most gentle and loving religions. Today there is disharmony and violence. Much is the result of religious intolerance and hatred. Religious tolerance is a vital message that Hindus can teach to the world. You can do this in your school and among your friends. §

image Hindus teach all religions can live in harmony. Here we see a Buddhist stupa, an Islamic mosque, a Christian church and a Hindu temple. §

image With Ganesha's blessings, a Hindu preaches dharma. He never attacks another religion. He teaches that we should accept all religions as good. §
