A Veggie Query

Mr. Prasad asks Gurudeva about the need for being a vegetarian and, if there is a need, what are some recipes? In response, Gurudeva offers a morsel of advice.

Unedited Transcript:

A question from a cyberspace devotee in Province, New York. "Do I have to become a pure vegetarian to be a Saivite? If so, can you provide recipes for the wife?"

Well, there are many reasons people become vegetarians in today's world. One of them is compassion for animals. They don't want to eat anything with eyes! Another is, for good health. Another is, for religious purposes. And, for this reason there are many, many vegetarian cookbooks - Indian style, European style, American style - available at almost any bookstore.

So, we hope the Prasad family has wonderful prasadam!

Giving a gift begrudgingly in return for another gift is, of course, mere barter. Many families barter their way through life in this way, thinking they are giving. But such gifts are cold, the fulfillment is empty, and the law of karma pays discounted returns.
