Adi Sri Shankara creates the Smarta tradition

Adi Sankara, “founder of the six-sect system.” popularized the ancient Smārta five-Deity altar—Gaṇapati, Sūrya, Vishṇu, Śiva and Śakti, and added Kumāra.
