New Ganesha Temple coming up in Vancouver area

Image

The temple society now worships in a tiny second story room not far from the new temple. Here Bodhinatha arrives at the new temple.

The temple is close to completion. The tile wall and floors have just been installed.

The temple trustees take Bodhinatha around the temple to circumnambulate and bless each shrine.

This will be the main diety. It is quite large, almost five feet tall, and they had to lower it down into position through the roof and through the roof of the shrine!

The young man on the left is the contractor who has done the demolition of the church that previously was on the site as well as construction of the new temple.

The exterior of the temple has purposely been kept simple so that it fits harmoniously into the neighborhood. The Maha Kumbabishekam is anticipated to occur early next year.

In Richmond, just outside of Vancouver, the Sri Ganesha Society of B. C. is creating a new Ganesha Temple. To avoid many of the zoning problems that they might ordinarily face, the purchased a church, tore it down to the foundation and built their temple on the old foundation. Under the zoning laws of that area, they need only follow the restrictions that were placed on the original church, which were much more lenient than they are now. A similar approach has been very effectively used for a number of temples in the US as well. Our appreciation to Manickam Senthivel for these excellent photos.
