Iraivan's Intricate Nandi Mandapam Carving
August 23, 2012
The two stones at the bottom are used to show the approximate height of the mandapam. This is the side view which shows the overall feel when nandi mandapam is ready.

This is a close up showing the intricate carvings done on this section. You will notice that there is no vacant space at all. It depicts the ancient chola style workmanship. Mdm Ponni (wife of Selvanathan sthapati ) came to our worksite two weeks ago. She commented " I have only seen such carvings in the old chola temples around Tanjore "

Another view. Detailed ornamental works are visible. The 4 trisula carvings (one section) below the sunshade takes about 2 days to carve.

This shows the carvings on the beam stone.

This is another view.

This is the inside view one will see, when standing below the sunshade.

This is the portion of the beam. The top section above the padmam is a string of anna pachai.

The inner portion of the beam and the sunshade that will be visible from inside the mandapam. The stones are not yet aligned properly.

This is the water eight sided pot that will collect the abhisheka water of the Nandi. Work is in progress.

This is a side view

This is the top view. We need to scope the stone in the center like a pot for about 2.5 feet deep. Lots of work in progress in Bangalore.
