Ganapati Kulam Steel Beams Raised

Today was a milestone day for the renovation of our media studio as we complete the raising up of two steel beams that span the entire main room.

The second beam was moved into place yesterday

Careful measurements are being made while the beam is sitting just above the floor

In the afternoon we brought in the Caterpillar Skid Steer to do the really heavy lifting.

Very, very carefully now we lift the beam up to the ceiling just outside the columns it will rest on. Kulapati Durvasa Alahan is our supervisor directing the team, Kulapati Deva Rajan helps guide us also.

Durvasa and Deva have years of experience and we are fortunate to have them on the job! Once up high enough the team quickly moves scaffolding in underneath the beam.

Then today we manually jacked up the beam and placed it about 2 inches above it\

s final resting place...'

Underneath each end the final grouting of the top blocks of the columns was done and a special super strong mortar will be packed underneath the steel plate that the beam will rest on.

Now we have two beams jacked up \"floating\" in space. We have to wait seven days for the cement in the columns to cure before we lower them to their final position. But getting these in was one of the big challenges we faced. It all went very smoothly.
