Nandi Mandapam and Making a Stone Chain
March 9, 2013More photos from the Iraivan Carving site in India

After the successful completion of the Beam stones a few days ago, now we have all geared up to complete the 8 stone chains that hang from the sunshade roof stone. We have posted some drawing months back and we are putting them again for your recollection.

The chain hangs down about 28 inches down from the base of the sunshade stone. Here is Stapathi\
s preliminary rough sketch done to arrive at a probable height to avoid people being to close to them.'

A view of the shunshade stone from from a mock up jointing done at the worksite.

The corners where the chains hang.

We finished the rough part of the work long time ago with our normal carvers and now we have our ornamental team take over the work.

Silpi Raghu works happily after months of hard work on the beam stone. His actuall name is Rahamathullah. He is one of the highly skilled ornamental workers that we have produced so far.

We are just in the midst of doing the bulb locking system for the chains. We are rushing on this as next month we are sending the kodungai stones to Kauai and we would not have them here to complete this part of the work.

Some of the stones that have been completed already with the locking system carefully carved by the silpis.

A close up on this part.

Thats silpi CT Kannan working on the same.

And another Kannan, but he is S Kannan.
