The Woodworking Behind the New Entryway Construction
July 11, 2013
A pair of wedges is driven into the tenon of each post after it is seated in the mortise. The mortise has been widened and slots have been cut in the tenon to accommodate the wedges.

the drawings created for us by Thamby Kumaran to guide the manufacture and assembly of parts as we work our way up the structure.

We used a traditional technique call drawboring to firmly afix the king posts to the crosstie beams in the new entryway.

Over the retreat, Kumarnathaswami milled another large log from the curly mango tree that was removed from near the Media Studio. Milling and air drying this fine wood for future use is part of the project.

We got 6 thick slabs for table tops and a host of 1\" boards. A pair of the slabs is destined to become a round table for the Mango Mandapam, the gazebo just north of the Media Studio. The yellow color is the result of the borate the Acharya has slathered on to keep away the powder post beetles. It works.
