Gardenia's Going in the Ground

Another planting report from our resident garden devas, the Siddhidata Kulam. Today we get a photo story of the clipping and planting process by which most of the grounds plants tend to get their start.

The Team. Starting from the left, Br. Vel Mahalingam, Nirvani Tejadevanatha and our newest sevak Jayendra Mardemootoo. Also to note, both sevaks pictured are from Mauritius!

The gardenia. One of our favorites as it provides the temple with a pleasant and potent aroma. In the wise words of SK Team Leader Yoginathaswami, \"If you can\

t pick it for the Deity or feed it to the monks, don\'t plant it.\" '

The crew takes some of the branches of the established flowers and clips a foot or so.

The collection is made and ready for installation.

Jayendra dips the stem from the cut side into a popular rooting hormone, Rootone. This synthetic hormones gives cuttings an extra boost since it is going through a bit of a shock.

The spot is chosen and a pooka (hole) is made.

Thank you, Earth.
