Gurudeva's Statement on America Under Attack
Today we were visited by the Sampath Ayyangar family from Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Sampath was part of the founding group of the Chicago Rama Sita Temple that first worshiped a Ganesha deity gifted by Gurudeva many years ago to start the temple.

Also visiting on a spiritual pilgrimage was Shirley Boyle and her Center of Light group from San Diego, California. The whole group is pictured here having Gurudeva's darshan in Kadavul Temple, where he answered their questions about the recent terrorism.
He reminded them that terrorism also occurs when parents hit their kids, or a husband hits his wife. A terrorist is someone who causes others to go into fear, he said. He presented everyone with a printed copy of his response to the terrorist attacks, including his talk at the United Nations, "For World Peace, Stop the War in the Home."
Lord Murugan in our temple, "The God of War Who Stops Wars." Lord Murugan is the Commander-in-Chief of the Celestial Forces of Light.
We took our wonderful team of stone carvers on an outing recently. They really enjoyed going out with two of our Tamil monks because they could ask a lot of questions about what they saw.
American style picnic lunch made at home and brought out to the beach. They get to see "How the Hawaiians do it." Recreation for the local people consists largely of big extended families all going to the beach, not just for an hour but for a whole day! Everyone "hangs out and relaxes" with all the older people, younger ones and moms and dads altogether.
Skandanathaswami was host for the day.
This Shanmugam Sthapati at "Spouting Horn" where the sea swells enter a lateral opening on the side of a sheer stone wall facing the ocean, the water rushes in and then spurts out through a hole in the top surface with a great rushing sound, rising up to sometimes over 50 feet... one of the tourist attractions on the island.
Sundaramachari is assistant to Shanmugam Sthapati, a very devotional man, he always has a loving bright smile on his face.
Chinnu... assistant to the silpis and one of the best cooks we know!
Some of these men have spent their entire lives doing the humble work of following the instructions of the Sthapati, doing the repetitive tasks of chip, chip, chip... but the results of their work are edifices of amazing grandeur. Donors to the Iraivan temple project should know that their donations comprise the livelihood of over 50 craftsmen and their families over the course of many years, while also serving at the same time to preserve these ancient skills which are being passed on to the next generation.

Title: Rituals and Moksha
Category: The Spiritual Path
Duration: 2 min., 0 seconds
Date Given: May 28, 2001
A cyberspace devotee, Radhakrishna, in Singapore wonders if through practicing the ritualistic practices given by Lord Siva to humankind, you can attain moksha.
Well, moksha is a destination. Everybody wants moksha, especially Americans. They want the end of the path before they even start at the beginning of the path. As soon as they hear about moksha, that is what they want.
Moksha is the destination of evolution. Ritualistic practices are a doorway, a tunnel leading to moksha. But the maturation of the soul, the soul maturing actually gives moksha.
To explain that a little bit more, our scriptures tell us that we are as we desire. If we desire spiritual unfoldment, we will desire ritualistic practices. But, if we desire all kinds of other things, that is also alright. But, if they are not fulfilled in this life, we will be born again to fulfill those desires.
Therefore, ritualistic practices are a doorway, a tunnel leading to moksha. But the maturation of the soul, the soul maturing actually gives moksha

Innersearch postponed
Due to the horrific tragedies of September 11th, Himalayan Academy has indefinitely postponed the Canadian Innersearch scheduled to leave next July. Please be assured, we will re-schedule the Innersearch, but only when the present insecurity around the world settles down. Until then, if you are planning to go on a future Innersearch program with Gurudeva, continue to set aside a little income each month in a special fund. |
