Shailesh is helping in the Ganapati Kulam. For a week or so he is helping each of the members with their tasks so that he can get to know each of the monks and their work area. Here he has been helping Sannyasin Arumugaswami prepare Hinduism Today Press ID cards which are issued annually. Aside from the monks we have two people whose service to Hinduism Today warrants their receiving a card.

The cards are issued for a limited period, in this case 2002-2004. We have twenty people who warrant a card. Keshav Mallia Chennai, INDIA; Mohana Vilashiny Selangor, D. E. Kulapati and Kulamata Deva and Amala Seyon brought their new truck to the Aadheenam for a vehicle blessing.

It is a small pick up.

Deva calls the new little truck his "White Bull Nandi." Soi often, especially in his seva to help with various Aadheenam project, he needs to be able to haul things... this he says will be just perfect.

Natyam Tyaganatha applies vibhuti in three stripes at various places to decorate the vehicle.

Deva follows with chandanam.

Amala puts on kumkum

Sadhaka Tyaganatha placed a small Ganesha on the hood with the car keys.

The keys are an important element, the connection between the driver and the car's action.

White Nandi looks very happy to be getting blessed like this. It interesting that we just had a baby bull born yesterday. Deva didn't know that.

This young Hindu family dropped by for puja... they disappeared before we could find out who they were.

Three wonderful Hindu couples came to visit today. First we had these two young couples shown in this photo--Madhuri and her newlywed husband from Houston Texas, and Ashish and Shweta Parikh from Florida, married for two years now. Then we were joined by Ramesh Chokshi and his wife from southern California.

All took a walk out to Iraivan Temple together and besides marveling at the stone jointing, had fun strolling down memory lane by sampling betel leaves and seeing jasmine flowers carpeting the path which Ramesh's wife mentioned she had not seen in 25 years.

Afterwards, two couples took a tour through our computer workstations to see a bit of how Hinduism Today and this daily website are assembled.

iraivan temple looks wonderful from a distance. The silpis are working on course fourteen right now and there are intense planning session in the works as the time will be coming soon when we will begin with extensions from the main sanctum outward for the root.

A quick follow-up on the Pilliyar Kulam guest rooms turned into offices renovation project.

the team of Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswam and Sadhaka Jivanandanatha have almost completes installing the drywall on the ceiling. Normally they are working on computers, but most of our monks are multi-talented and multi-skilled. Next will coming taping, spackling the cracks, sanding and painting.

Today was tour day and brought an interesting group of curiosity seekers as usual.

Yogi Mahadevan is their host. After the temple there is the stop at the Pali Lookout from where we can see the temple in the distance and the river below.

A trip down to the river.

The Wailua Ganga is always uplifting for guests.

At the orchid mandapam, Gurudeva had the monks install the twelve beliefs of Saivism on banners that hang from the rafters. Its a great education for guests.

Kauai Aadheenam

Singapore Mission
Deepavali
Mahasamadhi Observances

On 4 November 2002, the Singapore Mission observed the first anniversary of Gurudeva's Mahasamadhi at the Sri Sivan temple in Geylang East with a special puja and a religious feeding of devotees.

The day started at 6.00 am with a special abhishekam for Lord Siva. The Sivalingam was bathed in milk, honey, ghee, sandalwood paste, vibuthi and many other holy substances. In the picture on the left, the priest is handing the sacred offerings to Kulapathi Dohadeva.

The shaktis of the Singapore Mission and other well wishers are taking a short break at the temple mandapam before the start of the religious feeding. The members and students can be identified by a badge they are wearing. It is a special badge with the picture of Gurudeva and it was made specially for this occasion.

After the puja, special breakfast was served by the mission members to more than 500 people who came to the temple that morning to worship Siva. Pongal, kesari, vadai and coffee was served tirelessly by the members.

Many people streamed to the temple that morning as it was Deepavali day. It was a great punyam to be able to feed all of them.

Mrs Umamaheswaran is handing out the paper "banana leaves" to the devotees who had queued up to receive the food.

The women have taken over now. They are a dynamic group and a real powerhouse behind the many activities of the Singapore Mission.

The food is in big pots as it can be seen from the picture.

On the table is a small display board that announced to everyone that the breakfast was being served to commemorate the first annual observance of Gurudeva's Mahasamadhi. Many people stopped to enquire more about Gurudeva. It was a great way of promoting Gurudeva's teachings.

As we served every devotee we saw Gurudeva in them. We felt blessed to be able to share with others and Gurudeva has been the inspiration behind everything. This Deepavali is probably the best for most of us. It is indeed a gift from our Gurunathan. Jai Gurudeva !
