Speaking of expectations of those who come to us, Gurudeva once explained to the monks, "We should not think that those who have been beaten as children will be able to go very far on the spiritual path. They have to clean up all that in their subconscious minds. We have to help people where they are and not talk over their heads. If we can guide the youth to free themselves of all that pain, that will be a great accomplishment and create a change in the thinking of the next generation of Hindus."

Yogaswami wrote:

THE TREMULOUS AWARENESS

This is bliss indeed to melt in love
And realise for ever the Being true.
To rest in the calm of felicity--bereft of grief,
And live always without fear of birth or death.
Thou art not the five elements, nor the five senses:
Thou art not the five sensations: Thou art Anma. [soul-"atma"]
May your life be an endless ecstasy of Being, illumined
By the Truth that Anma is inseparable from Siva.
Being is harmony, with mind subdued and serene.
Restrain desire, anger and arrogance on earth.
Be unattached like drops of water on the lotus leaf,
Thus enlightened, may you live in tremulous Awareness.

Rohit and Seema Sehgal from Fremont, California With their 3-year-old son Rohan, cousin Anish Mehta and Rohit's mother who is visiting from New Delhi. Their first time here and had a wonderful tour of Iraivan. They enjoyed picking rudraksha seeds and were really surprised to find such a Hindu sanctuary in Hawaii. They stopped by the publications facility where Paramacharya Palaniswami gave them a tour.

Visit with Sannyasin Arumugaswami, the managing editor of Hinduism Today who shared with them the article on Mahatma Gandhi that he was working on.

The article sparked the interest of Rohit's mother who said she had been an activist in her youth, participating in the "Quit India" program to get the British to leave in the 40's just before independence. Her family was established in Lahore, which is now in Pakistan. When independence finally did arrive, the partition of India forced her family to leave their ancestral home that her father had built in Lahore in 1913. She was 20 years of age then, a medical student. They left India for Jaipur. For some time the family was separated, they had no belongings, nothing... and her father was lost for sometime. Later everyone was reunited. She became a pediatrician and medical educator and is now retired in Delhi.

Rohan is a sweet and vivacious young boy. He is very friendly and respectful and offered Namaskaram to the silpis and the monks as he met them. He's also a very talkative young man and at age three he seemed able to carry on a continuous conversation with himself and several other invisible characters just standing by himself in the middle of the room.

Hinduism Today subscribers, Professor Kapil Mehta and his wife Reeta, daughters Sonal, age 17 and 8-year-old Rupal were on a cruise shop with a five hour stop over on Kauai. They were amazed to see our place, having only read about it in Hinduism Today. Kapil predicted: "When the temple is built this place will most likely become very famous." We gave his daughters packets of the Yamas and Niyamas pamphlets to give out in the classes at school and to their friends.

On the right, Harish, and Kokila Patel from Roanoke, Texas with his nephew Vinod and wife from Sebring, Florida on a vacation to the Hawaiian islands. They flew to Kauai for the day to visit the Monastery. Such a cheerful family.

On the left the American family is building a home here on Kauai and their architect is Michael Borden, student of Ganapati Sthapati and their home will be built according to Vastu principles.

Dhruman and Reshma Parmar from Fremont, California.
