Bodhinatha is gearing up for his trip to Toronto. Hindus there want to make his arrival "a bigger visit than the Pope's."
Title: Strengthening Hinduism in Your Community |
Cybertalk: Bodhinatha delivers a wonderful talk which he will be giving at the Hindu Renaissance 2, the second rally on Hindu Rennaisance organized by the Malaysian Hindu Sangam. Gurudeva encouraged Hindus to "think globally, act locally." Bodhinatha's message is comprehensive about how Hindus can integrate this practical and powerful attitude to strengthen Hinduism in their communities.

Navin, Swati and daughter, Vrindha (on the left) from Massachussets along with Swati's parents. They are devotees of Sri Haranji who lives in Rochester, New York. Sri Haranji bestowed on them the Sri Vidya diksha and gave them a Sri Chakra to be worshipped daily. Navin and his wife remarked that the Adheenam surroundings and property reminded them so much of India.
It was an absolutely glorious spring day here on Kauai.... a good one to share this poem from an anonymous writer:
GURUDEVA
Rishis long ago foretold
A bridge to the West of purest gold
Thousand-fold path again made clear
From the sacred fire of a Natha Mystic dear . . .
Searching far, in a land so fair
A Sri Lankan Sage was sitting there
In a flash . . . a mighty hand
Destiny ordained to far and distant lands.
Shiva's time had set the stage
Slumber keeping cracked by age
First a trickle, then a roar
Cosmic power of ancient mystic lore
Countless men would hold him dear
Mystic eyes that held no fear
Reaching down in darkness mire
He pulled them up in spirits fire
Leaving soon His work was done
All is perfect . . . . All undone
Nothing gained . . . nothing lost
Who could ever know the cost?
Worlds within worlds are now ablaze
Steeped in His holy mystic gaze
Far within that only God's might know
Infinite love for all below.
Rishis long ago foretold
A bridge to the West of Purest Gold
Thousand-fold path again made clear
From the sacred fire of a Natha Mystic dear . . .

Order Rudraksha Malas from Siva's sacred Hawaiian groves; and gorgeous 2003 Iraivan Calendars with Hindu festival days on them. Great for Gifts! All proceeds go to the building fund. |
Unloading the four containers continued today.
We have had a sudden turn in the weather and the sun is blazing!
We have our expert forklift man from Kauai Commercial on hand as usual.
Each container is rated to carry up to 18,000 pounds
There are lots of small stones in this shipment.
These small stones are pieces that form the top of the main sanctum tower called the "Vimanam."
The forklift is our elephant.
All the way from India.
We just cleaned up the foundation... only to have it laden again with more precious granite from Bharat.
Teddy is sharp and concentrated.
This is actually a bit of a break for the silpis' usual day, as the forklift does all the work.
Up, up! Ok, now, in... down!
Sundaram Achari is the "second in command" on our team. He will be returning to India in a May, having completed his two-year stay.
Handling these small stones will be easy compared to roof beams!
Adaikkalam has been with the Iraivan carving team since he was 16 years old... he's 27 now. Working on a small square hole in the bottom of the potagai to fit on top of the pillar.
The beat goes on... chink, chink, chink.
The pristine blue skys of Kauai accentuated by the flags of Iraivan.
Back at the monastery some major "ashram sadhana" underway as Paramacharya Palaniswami and Acharya Kumarswami take this sunny dry day opportunity to paint the swimming pool which has been waiting for sometime.
This is a special paint and we are using respirators today. The weather is perfect, humidity low, good breeze in the air.
This is the first coat. There will be a second and then a beautiful AUM painted on the bottom.
The small garden behind our kitchen, Sadhaka Adinatha is growing some orchids in a gravel bed to provide temple flowers.

Title: State of the Church Address 2003, Part 4
Category: Saiva Siddhanta Church Activities
Duration: 4 min., 5 seconds
Date Given: January 5, 2003
Given by: Bodhinatha
Last but not least, Sadhanas. You may have noticed in reflection there wasn't any sadhana follow-up last year. Have you finished this sadhana, did you do this sadhana? How about this, how about that? We gave you a break. One year break from sadhana follow-up! Of course, I think all of you here finished the sadhanas that Gurudeva gave. But some of the members particularly new members, have not done the Maha Vasana Daha Tantra. So
that is our one focus. One sadhana for the year is to make sure that everyone who is a member has totally finished the Maha Vasana Daha Tantra, which includes any penance that came up that Gurudeva gave you which you haven't completed yet. For example, some of the members were asked to carry kavadi three times and they haven't done the third time. Maybe they have done one or two times, some of them are in that situation of one or more carrying kavadi still left to be done to finish out the penance side of the Maha Vasana Daha Tantra. Everyone who has finished the Maha Vasana Daha Tantra should complete the annual Vasana Daha Tantra for the year 2002, if you have not finished it already.
So that sadhana, Maha Vasana Daha Tantra or Vasana Daha Tantra, is our one theme in the sadhana area for those that have not completed both of them. You will be hearing about it in Satellite News, pop up in talks here and there to encourage everyone. Sometimes the Maha Vasana Daha Tantra, you get stuck in the middle. You are going along fine and you hit a year you really don't like. "I don't want to think about that, that was the year of my worst behavior of my life. I am going to stop." For whatever reason, something unpleasant or a number of unpleasant things in particular years, can cause members to stop, which has happened.
It is our job to encourage them to continue and remind them of the importance of it, that it is really central to clearing out the subconscious mind and moving forward with our life. There is lots of resentments down there, lots of unresolved experiences if we haven't done a systematic sadhana like the Maha Vasana Daha Tantra. Amazing, what it brings up! It forces us to look at relationships we think we have resolved and we find out we didn't. We find out there are people we still react to in our memory. We are still mad at them for what they did to us 25 years ago.
We can clear all of this out of the subconscious mind through this very simple practice of Maha Vasana Daha Tantra. Even Gurudeva did it, it is not like he just created it. He also went through the entire process, you know. It is a lot of years, seventy something years there. He went through the whole process. Think how lucky we are. ,We are only twenty, thirty, forty. Get it done while you are young, it takes less time.
Those are our focuses for the year and I think we will have a very dynamic year. I think it is a year of a little more expansion. It was a very conservative year, the first year after Gurudeva's Mahasamadhi. But I think we are all feeling more like expanding, more dynamic situations. We will be embarking on more new activities this year than we did last year. This isn't a complete list for our activities. It is just a list of some of the major focuses that involve the membership, so the members have some idea of what the focus is and the direction the Aadheenam is going, what direction the sadhana should go, how should we look at the membership of our Church.
Aum Namah Sivaya!
