Gurudeva at the United Nations Assembly Hall. Many speakers stood up and gave very short prayers... for some that was the entirety of their contribution. In a working session Gurudeva was able to present his theme "For World Peace, Stop the War in the Home." He also had his talk printed before going to New York and on one day put a copy in every single seat in the hall! Later, as the speeches went on and on... people through the hall were reading Gurudeva's talk... and came up to him afterwards saying how much they appreciated.

Title: Malaysia-Singapore Visit Report Part 3 |
Cybertalk: Bodhinatha continues his report on his visit to Malaysia and Singapore (part 3). Bodhinatha attended a large Hindu Renaissance event, where he noticed how abstract and complicated Hinduism can be portrayed. In Gurudeva's beautiful style of presenting Hinduism in a simple and approachable manner, Bodhinatha describes three straightforward ways Hinduism can improve our lives. Hinduism teaches us how to 1) become a better person, 2) improve our behavior, and 3) live as spiritual beings on this Earth.

Gurudeva wrote:
"How Can Peace on Earth Be Achieved?"
"Peace is a reflection of spiritual consciousness. It begins within each person, and extends to the home, neighborhood, nation and beyond. It comes when the higher nature takes charge of the lower nature. Aum Namah Sivaya."
"Until we have peace in our own heart, we can't hope for peace in the world. Peace is the natural state of the mind. It is there, inside, to be discovered in meditation, maintained through self-control, and then radiated out to others. The best way to promote peace is to teach families to be peaceful within their own homes by settling all conflicts quickly. At a national and international level, we will enjoy more peace as we become more tolerant. Religious leaders can help by teaching their congregations how to live in a world of differences without feeling threatened, without forcing their ways or will on others."
"World bodies can make laws which deplore and work to prevent crimes of violence. It is only when the higher-nature people are in charge that peace will truly come. There is no other way, because the problems of conflict reside within the low-minded group who only know retaliation as a way of life. The Vedas beseech, "Peace be to the earth and to airy spaces! Peace be to heaven, peace to the waters, peace to the plants and peace to the trees! May all the Gods grant to me peace! By this invocation of peace may peace be diffused!" Aum Namah Sivaya."
Bodhinatha's talk today was on the Hindu guideline for conduct, the yama: kshama... "patience." He had written this for the Malaysia youth teacher's group who are focusing on the teaching of Yamas and Niyamas to young people.
Guests from our own Hawaiian islands.
Shelly Lowrie and her husband from Oregon with their daughter Erin.
Keith, Valerie and Jon were on the island for a friend's wedding who happens to be staying near the temple and they told them that they should go visit the temple.
Matthew and Kavita Vella with Kavita's mother, Vijaya from Dallas, Texas. Vijaya was about to get into her car in town when a man came up to her and asked her is she had been to the Siva temple. She asked: "What Siva temple?" He told her all about it so she came up today with her family.

The pillars with potagai at the top look magnificent.
Now we know why they are saying in India "It is rare to see such detailed carving these days."
You are looking at four pillars.
Perfectly lined up....
More potagai on the foundation... they have been pressure washed and cleaned, ready to be hoisted aloft.
The next hoist will put several roofs beams up. Sundaram Achari gets the ends ready.
A close up of another potagai. We are washing these thoroughly while they are still on the surface of the foundation. They sat on red earth while in India and picked up some coloring that washes off quite easily with a gentle pressure washer.
