"Parashakti, "Supreme Energy," is called by many names: silence, love, being, power and all-knowingness. It is Satchidananda--existence-consciousness-bliss--that pristine force of being which is undifferentiated, totally aware of itself, without an object of its awareness. It radiates as divine light, energy and knowing. Out of Parasiva ever comes Parashakti, the first manifestation of mind, superconsciousness or infinite knowing. God Siva knows in infinite, all-abiding, loving superconsciousness. Siva knows from deep within all of His creations to their surface. His Being is within every animate and inanimate form. Should God Siva remove His all-pervasive Parashakti from any one or all of the three worlds, they would crumble, disintegrate and fade away. Siva's Shakti is the sustaining power and presence throughout the universe. This unbounded force has neither beginning nor end. Verily, it is the Divine Mind of Lord Siva. The Vedas say, "He is God, hidden in all beings, their inmost soul who is in all. He watches the works of creation, lives in all things, watches all things. He is pure consciousness, beyond the three conditions of nature." Aum Namah Sivaya."

Cybertalk: Mahasivaratri, Part 2 of 3, Yogaswami as an Example of Saiva Siddhanta. Bodhinatha acknowledges the presence of some special guests from Canada who were close to Yogaswami, Gurudeva's guru, and announces his upcoming trip to Toronto for Yogaswami's mahasamadhi observances on April 11 as well as some other upcoming travel plans. He then talks about Yogaswami, who was a great Sivabhaktar and Sivayogi, simultaneously profoundly devoted to Siva and a profound meditator. Saiva Siddhanta requires both devotion and meditation from us.

Sannyasin Saravananathaswami, Talaivar of the Ekadanta Kulam, keeps in touch with members and missions worldwide.

We bring you today some background and wonderful words relating to the magnificent image of Dakshinamurti and the four sages:

~~~~~~~~~~
The four sons of BrahmA, Sanaka , Sanandana, SanAtana , Sanat KumAra did austere tapas and analysis, but they were unclear of the Supreme Truth. They finally decided to come to Lord Shiva to get the knowledge of the Truth. The Lord sat under the banyan tree, and the four sages also sat down around Him. Lord stayed in the yOga posture without saying a single word. The four sages got all their doubts cleared just by that posture. The form in which God appeared as a Supreme Guide is the form of wisdom dakshiNAmUrti .
This explains that the Truth cannot be explained in words and must be experienced. Including the great chinmudra posture, the posture of shrI DhakshiNA MUrti, who is the teacher of all the teachers, indicates a lot of information that needs days to explain. As ThirumUlar says, the posture of the guru is a thing to be thought about always. That is the clarity !
Shiva is presented as the original teacher who revealed the Vedas to the four sons of Brahmaji - Sanaka, Sanandana etc. We have the shloka -
Sadaa Shiva Samaarambhaam
Shankaraacharya Madhyamam
Asmad Aacharya Paryantaam
Vande Guru Paramparaam.
"I salute the tradition of teachers, of which Sadaashiva is the first (link), Shankaraacharya the central (link), and our own personal teacher is the final (link)."
Since the Vedas are said to have been revealed, we do not attribute them to a human agency. Hence the scriptures say that they were revealed by the Lord Himself.
Shiva is said to have appeared as a young boy in contrast to the Rishis who were old . He sat under a banyan tree and faced South (Dakshinaa moorti). His Jnanamudra represents Self-knowledge which was communicated in silence. With respect to Vedanta the interpretation is that He is Adept (Dakshina) as well as formless (Amoorti). His teaching is not limited to literal words (vaachyaartha) but extends to their implied meanings (lakshyartha) which goes beyond the words. Hence the word mauna (silence) is itself symbolically represents the body of Vedanta teaching that extends beyond the expressed words.
Shiva as the Destroyer also represents freedom from the cycle of birth and death. He destroys ignorance that is the cause of Samsaara by imparting Self Knowledge. Hence he is both the phenomenon of time as well as the timeless one who swallows time.
The prayer verses to Dakshinaamoorti are :
1.
Mauna Vyaakhyaa Prakatita Para Brahma Tattvam Yuvaanam
Varshishthaantevasad Rishi Ganaih Aavritam Brahma Nishthaih
Aachaaryendram Karakalita Chinmudram Aananda Roopam
Svaatmaaraamam Mudita Vadanam Dakshinaamoortim Eede
"I worship Dakshinaamoorti of joyful countenance, who revels in his Self, who is the best of teachers, who bears the Chinmudra sign, who is happiness incarnate, who is youthful, who reveals the essence of the Absolute Self through silent discourse, and who is surrounded a group aged sage-disciples who are themselves established in the (knowledge of the) Self."
2.
Vatavitapi Sameepe Bhoomi Bhaage Nishannam
Sakala Muni Janaanaam Jnaana Daataaram Aaraat
Tribhuvana Gurum Eesham Dakshanaamoorti Devam
Janana Marana Duhkha Chheda Daksham Namaami
"I salute Lord Dakshinaamoorti, teacher of the three worlds, who is capable of destroying the sorrows of birth and death, who, seated on a piece of land near the forest of Banyan trees, imparts Self knowledge instantly to all sages."
3.
Chitram Vatataror Moole
Vriddhaa Shishyaa Gurur Yuvaa
Gurostu Maunam Vyaakhyaanam
Shishyaastu Chhinna Samshayaah
"Near the roots of the colourful banyan tree are the aged disciples and the young teacher. The teacher is eloquently silent, and the disciples are free from doubt."
4.
Nidhaye Sarva Vidyaanaam
Bhishaje Bhava Rooginaam
Gurave Sarva Lokaanaam
Dakshinaamoortaye Namah
"Salutations unto Dakshinaamoorti, the teacher of the entire world, who is the treasury of all knowledge, and who is the physician for the sickness of transmigration."
5.
Om Namah Pranavaarthaaya
Shuddha Jnaanaika Moortaye
Nirmalaaya Prashaantaaya
Dakshinaamoortaye Namah
"Salutations to Dakshinaamoorti, who is tranquil and pure. Salutations unto the one who is revealed by the word "OM", and is Pure Knowledge incarnate."
Order Rudraksha Malas from Siva's sacred Hawaiian groves; and also single rudraksha beads ready to put on a chain around your neck. Great for Gifts! All proceeds go to the building fund.
Current Overview
Iraivan also speaks out with a power radiating from the silent stones. The power of our beloved Gurudeva's vision, as if each piece of granite were a testimony to his life and dedication to preserve and bring forward the greatness of our Hindu heritiage.
The gomukai....from where will one day flow the waters from the bathing of the Maha Spatika Shiva lingam.
Our Siddhidata team has successfully managed to start the removal of sand from the mukha mandapam of the sanctum.
it was a challenge as no one could stand in front of the wall of sand without being in jeopardy, less he be buried underneath as it flowed out.
The team rigged up a high pressure hose to blast at the wall of sand until it flowed down. Now that the main "head" of the big block of sand is down they are continuing with shovels... but it is a lot of work!
Indian Ocean Monastery
Gurudeva's spiritual center in the island country of Mauritius
in the Indian Ocean near South Africa
In Mauritius our members have been actively involved in various Hindu functions and the beautiful and powerful Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Temple in Port Louis is a great center for everyone. We bring you this wonderful story from that jewel of the Indian Ocean....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

On the 18th of May, the famous Saivite Temple, Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Temple in Port Louis celebrated the Thirugnana Sambandar Issai Vizha. It was an opportunity for our Church members to pilgrimage to this temple and enjoy the blissful vibration of the ceremony in honour of the youthful Saivite saint who had glorified the greatness of saivism in the past. A small souvenir magazine with one of Gurudeva's Upadeshas 'Ancient Tamil Saivism', was also published for that occasion.

This temple was nicely built by the first Indian Immigrants who came to Mauritius in the 18th century. Constructed according to Agamic Shastras, the Temple stands as a major majestic beauty of the island. The architecture reminds us of little Tirugnana Sambandar who as the story goes was three years old when he had his first encounter with Lord Siva at a temple. Since then the young Saint toured the Tamil land of India to sing praises to Lord Siva and make miracles that strengthened the faith of the people in Saivism.

Here is a beautiful brass murthi of the Saint which was ceremoniously paraded around the Temple on that day.

Our Church members were there early. We can see a group of them with Kulapati Manon and Mukya Paramasiven ....

Here is the young generation of our membership. The children love going to temple festivals.

A few very high calibre carnatic singers were invited to perform on that day. Our Himalayan Academy student Adi Sankara (in white) and his wife playing the tamboura entertained the devotees too with beautiful Thevarums.

Here is Kulamata Premila Manick playing the traditional Vina with a group led by the talented Vina teacher Rajesh Marday.

Kulapati Kulagan addressed the devotees present on that day with a testimony related to singing the thevarums.

During a cultural performance, Kulamata Saranamutha Pareatumbee accompanied a group of Thevarum singers.

Singing thevarums was the main cultural activity of the day. Our Kulapati Kulagan Moonesawmy and Kulamata Seedha Moonesawmy Lutchmee and their son Sivakavinien joined a group from Flacq for a performance.

Kulapati S K Moorghen and Kulamata Moilavadee Moorghen their two sons and Brahmachari Vel Mahalingum were present too.

We can surely recognise Varsen Luchmanen on the right with Swami Sharma, pandaram priest at the Kailasam Temple. Varsan accompanied Gurudeva on the last Odyssey on the cruise to Europe and had a memorable experience of this spiritual trip with the Guru.

Malaysia Mission

In Malaysia the mission there holds a really fun and joyful group event on this special day.

Title: Good fear; Bad fear
Category: The Mind
Duration: 4 min., 51 seconds
Date Given: February 14, 1999
Given By: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam; February 14th.

A Happy Valentine's day to each and everyone of you. Will you be my Valentine? This is really wonderful. We have just enjoyed a fantastic Mahasivaratri puja that lasted till past midnight. All initiated devotees in good standing in Saiva Siddhanta Church were invited. It was a wonderful, close group of inner people, who have been on the path for many, many years.

Today, we are going to talk about fear.

Have you ever been afraid? There are two kinds of fear, you know. A good kind, and a not-so-good kind. Standing on top of a tall building looking down at the traffic below, you do have a certain trepidation if you get too close to the edge. That's the good kind of fear. Our scriptures tell us, "It is wise to fear that which should be feared."

There is another kind of fear that is not such a good kind of fear. It tears down the self image of the individual who indulges in the kind of thinking, creating concepts. "What if my house burned down? What if I had a automobile accident today? What if?, what if?, what if?." Innumerable, various fears that may never happen. But, we know, what we think about the most manifests eventually.

Now those kinds of fears can be wiped away through positive thinking. If you catch yourself 'what-if'ing, then just stop and think positively. Say a positive affirmation, "I am protected by the divinity within me and the divinity around me. Nothing can hurt and touch me." Think positively and the negative fear will vanish.

We have a question from Toronto about the immensity of the Universe. Greetings to Toronto, Canada! It's only our minds that conceive the Universe being immense. For all we know, it might be very, very small. For all we know, it may go on for ever and ever and ever. But what we do know in our limited concept, according to the Vedas, that it is an absolute perfect Universe. Everything working 100 percent in-sync, with everything else.

Sit by a river. Observe the the stars, the sunrise, the moon, all the planets, the river, the trees around you and you'll see that there is nothing wrong in the universe. It is a perfect universe. What the Vedas tell us is that we are a part of ecology. The Vedas don't tell us that human beings have to dominate nature and eat all the animals, birds and fish. Some of the other religions believe that they should. The Vedas do not tell us that we are not a part of ecology, that we are on the outside looking in. The Vedas explain that we are an intricate part of this wonderful Universe and even more so, of this beautiful planet of ours.

We hope that shed a little light on your question, from Toronto. Thank you very, very much for sending it on the e-mail to us. We want to wish you well in your life.

Aum Namah Sivaya.
