Gurudeva at the United Nations Assembly Hall Millennium Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders, New York, August, 2000. While speakers each had only a few brief moments to address the assembly, Gurudeva had previously arrived early and asked one of his monks to pass out in advance a beautifully printed copy of "For World Peace, Stop the War in the Home," to all the seats in the auditorium, which then everyone one read as the speeches went on and on. Several stopped him on the way out saying how important his message was. It was one of Gurudeva's masterful strokes in getting his message across, in a big way, from behind the scenes. The following day he made the same points as one of just three speakers at a working panel on these issues.

Shankar Nathan came today, continuing his work on the Iraivan documentary film with short interviews with Bodhinatha, Palaniswami and other monks.
This is the Jitendra Patel family from Brookings, Oregon. They came to Hawaii once before but only to Maui island. This is their first time to Kauai so they made sure to see the "Hindu Temple."

Many years ago Gurudeva asked Sannyasin Natarajnathaswami to do paintings of his visions. One of these was Lord Murugan pounding is Vel on the steps of the estate that Gurudeva had just gotten on Kauai. Murugan was indicating the place where the giant statue of Lord Nataraja was to be placed. The day following the vision, Gurudeva called the monks, asked for the Nataraja murthi to be placed and he hit the bronze murthi with a hammer "waking up the chakram" (power center) saying "From this day onward the monks will hold vigil here, 24 hours a day. God Siva never sleeps, so we also will have someone here, alert, awake, focused, 24 hours a day." That was in 1971... and the monks have maintained this "nitya vrata" (obligatory vow) now for over 32 years.

Gurudeva's spiritual center in the island country of Mauritius
in the Indian Ocean near South Africa
We bring you photos from our center in Mauritius where Lord Ganesha reigns in his magnificent form of the Five-Faced Ganapati at Saiva Siddhanta Church, Spiritual Park of Mauritius. It was here that Gurudeva first implement his vision of giant murthis commissioned in India and placed on the property as awesome inspirations for Hindu dharma.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to the El Nino phenomena winter is slow to manifest itself in the island of Mauritius. It is usualy cold in June. However, on the first Homa Sunday of June the Mandapam looked radiant with a smiling Pancha Ganapathi. On that unusual mildly chilly morning, devotees from all over Mauritius turned up for the Ganesha Homa. A beautiful garland woven by some dedicated ladies adorned the murthi.
This month Homa was hosted by the Mardemootoo and Pallanee kutumbas. Everyone sat down in the Mandapam to sing. After building up the spiritual vibrations with beautiful devotional songs and Natchintanai, the homa was lighted with four men traditionally sitting around it. We can see Muhkyas Parmeshwaran Ramsamy, Somandiren Peruman, Kumaren Moorooven and Paramasiven Canagasaby.
Hundred of notes were being burnt into the fire as one of the men rang a small bell. Burning notes to the devonic beings or devas is a unique activity in Mauritius and this what makes the Spiritual Park a unique place in the island.
At one time a small group of children came forward to sing a few songs in the carnatic style at lord Ganesha's Feet. The adults were delighted to see so many talented singers mastering carnatic beats and pitch. These children are being coached vocal carnatic music by Adishankara, a lecturer in Music at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute.
It is the wish of Beloved Bodhinatha to see the youth coming up with different cultural talents. Many of our Church talented youth in Mauritius are shooting up in vocal, percussion as well as classical dance. Most of them are being privately coached by professionals trained in India. Adults always enjoy watching them perform. They will surely be very good ambassadors of the saivite culture in the future.
After the homa and children songs, an arthi is being performed by Brahmachari Vel Mahalingum to Lord Pancha Ganapathi to conclude the ceremony.
A few books of Gurudeva's teachings on display for sale to visitors of the Park.
The ladies made a beautiful garland for the Dakshina murthi. The shady and cool place where majestically sits Lord Siva in the midst of a little Konrai forest attracts devotees of all ages....and children love to be there!
Lord Muruga at the far eastern end of the property has been nicely garlanded too.
Title: Long Term and Short Term Goals
Category: Self Improvement
Duration: 3 min., 13 seconds
Today at Kauai Aadheenam, March 14th. Greetings to each and everyone in cyberspace!
A question came up about long term and short term goals. What are they?
We have to plan out our karma that we make in this life. Hopefully, it will all be good karma. Therefore, we need short term goals and we need long term goals. Many people are pushed into various professions by their family. They are not suited to the profession. They graduate and they ask themselves, "What do I do next? Do I get a job near my family home or do I go to a far off country and seek employment?" All those long term goals with an education should be planned out ahead of graduation, because you have one life. You have to take care of it.
Either a short or a long span of years, you have to make the best use out of your time, during the time that you are awake. They say, in a life-span you sleep twenty to thirty years. So during those waking hours it is very essential to have goals. Short term goals means, like a month or a year ahead. Long term goals are like five or ten years ahead, a lifetime.
In the United States, before the First or Second World War, everyone knew what they were going to do for the rest of their life, by the time they were eighteen or nineteen years of age. They went ahead and lived out their life. Society was stable, society was strong and there were few problems. Now, the mind seems to be confused for the young people and old people alike. Too much television, too much input. Not enough planning, not enough talking, not enough camaraderie to sit down and plan out what you are going to do this year, next year, the year after, and the year after that.
That is how you keep your karma under control, with short term goals and long term goals planned out according to dharma.
We hope this answers that question. If it hasn't, we can go at it again tomorrow. Have a very beautiful day everybody in cyberspace! It is very, very wonderful that you keep tuning into 'Today at Kauai Aadheenam', and it is a joy for us to talk with you, and be one with your mind and spirit.
Aum Namah Sivaya!
