Today was that joyous and profound day of Guru Purnima, when we honor and worship the Sat Guru, the living preceptor, the lineage holder, our anchor and guide, manifestation of Siva, exemplar of the Divine Self with each one of us. Jai Gurudeva!

We began early in the morning on San Marga. Swami Buaji Maharaj is in a small palanquin carried by the silpis.

Walking down San Marga everyone chants, "Om Gurunatha, Jaya Gurunatha..."

This experience is a gift from our Parampara... the satsang of devotees, the presence of great souls, all gathered in a fellowship of love and commitment to the highest ideals of human existence.

The parade arrives at the San Marga lingam site.

The sun rises in the background, the early morning birds chirp and a beautiful, peaceful blessing fills the air.

Arati on arrival.

Puja to the sacred Tiruvadi... in this case, the actual feet of the living Satguru is always a profound and mystical experience.... something only to be experienced to be known and understood.

It is as if , when the Satguru is worshipped, the Divine within each one of us is quicken, sparked in a remarkable way that moment which could not otherwise occur without the presence of a living preceptor in our midst.

Sacred holy ash is offered and will be sent out to all the devotees around the world.

Bodhinatha, as did Gurudeva before him, enters a deep samadhi during the ceremony.

A deep silence and power emanates in this moment.

Flower offering.

Jai Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami ki Jai!

After the puja, Swami Buaji Maharaj comes forward for a blessing.

Together Bodhinatha and Swami Bua bless all the devotees with holy ash.

On the stone where Gurudeva used to sit, we have him present with us in a small picture and sandals.

All this we have today is Gurudeva's gift to us.

Devotees stand as each one comes forward...

Each family comes forward together, husband, wife and children. Shyamadeva and his wife Peshandevi...

Our musicians from Canada play in the background.

They love to come here and play. Several years ago Gurudeva told them to come every year.

Murugadas, the nadasvaram player says that every time he comes to play here he goes away with a new spirit and his life is changed.

We all return to Kadavul and perform an arati and chant the 108 names of Gurudeva.

Paramacharya Palaniswami presents a give to Bodhinatha from all the Mathavasis, saying "Everything we have here today is a gift from Gurudeva. And Gurudeva's greatest gift to us is Bodhinatha and so we now give a gift to him. It was a black granite sign to sit on his desk saying "Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami" on one side that would face anyone with him, and on the other side, facing him "Aum Nama Sivaya" in Tamil, beautifully carved in India.

We gave Swami Bua a gift of a shall and a marvelous statue of Siva from Bali.

Next, a short cultural performance... Priya Alahan played veena (sorry Priya... the photo didn't turn out)...

Then Sunil Modi, who is Swami Bua's disciple and accompanies him to Kauai, sang some bhajans for us.

Next Swami Bua gave us his usual delightful and sometimes humorous talk/seminar/ questions and answer session.

"Who Are You! What do you think you are! Are you the five elements!"

Swami says, (and we confirmed this... ) that after having been bald for sometime, now, at the age of around 114, his hair is beginning to grow again and it is turning black!

We closed the joyous and mangalam morning events with another short concert by our musicians. Then all afternoon the monks and devotees worked hard together preparing for tomorrow's Open House. We really don't know what to expect, but there are estimates from feedback from our island community that we may have as many as 800 people!

Title: Building Willpower
Category: Self Improvement
Duration: 6 min., 54 seconds
Given by: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. It is April 5th. We have Sadhaka Thondunatha here to translate what I am going to say into the beautiful Tamil language. So, all of you Tamil-speaking devotees, hang on and tune in. But, first we are going to talk a little bit more about willpower.

Willpower is an actual possession. Many people have a lot of it. Many people have developed it in their last life. Many people have had several past lives and it comes naturally easy to them in this life. If you find you don't have will, you don't have determination, it is hard for you to carry things through to finish that you begin. You are a victim of procrastination. That means you put things off until tomorrow and then never get around to doing it. But, it is always in your mind that you are going to. "I am going to do it." So, if you are a I-am-going-to-do-it person, you need more willpower.

How do you get more willpower? Walk a little further than you think you can walk. Sit a little longer in meditation than you think is possible for you to sit. Be a little nicer than you think you can be. Be more forgiving. Put out extra effort in everything that you do and that extra effort begins to build up within you because that extra effort is a prana, is an energy that accumulates within your manipura chakra. That is just where your belly button is and in that chakra in your astral body, you begin to build a force field of pranic energy, you become strong. Of course, not to create bad karma by using your willpower, as we talked about yesterday, we must have love in the will. We have to do good for people, to do good for ourselves. Think positive thoughts, be positive in words and then, what happens? Our life and future smoothes out.

Now we are going to ask Sadhaka Thondunatha to tell in the beautiful Tamil language everything I had to say and also encourage the youth, especially the youth of Sri Lanka to encourage their friends to tune in to, 'Listen to Gurudeva' today.

{Sadhaka Thondunatha talks in Tamil.}

Gurudeva: I would like to thank Sadhaka for the beautiful translation. I would also like some of you out there from Sri Lanka to put out a news item in all the Tamil newspapers, radio programs that this service from Kauai Aadheenam is available. Kauai Aadheenam is an extension of our Alaveddy Ashram in Sri Lanka. This service is available to young people. They can ask questions. If they are having problems with drugs, girl friends or boy friends, they can ask questions. We can give either personal or impersonal answers.

{Sadhaka Thondunatha translates into Tamil.}

Gurudeva: Aum Namah Sivaya.
