Niraj Bhatt completed his stay with us and departed from Kauai Aadheenam this evening for the "red eye" flight back to his home in New Jersey. This morning he had darshan with Bodhinatha.
Study and listen to learned people and our primary scriptures, the Vedas and Upanishads and other holy texts. This guides us to become more spiritual people. But it is listening, more than reading, that is meant by this practice, for listening is more powerful. As Yogaswami said, "It is not in books, you fool!" Rather it is through hearing that the more subtle forms of knowledge are passed from the knower to the listener, from the teacher to the student. This happens most potently when the speaker has had spiritual experiences.
Bodhinatha continues with a second subject on the importance of the Guru in our religious lives.

Kulapati Iraja Sivadas who is on task force has come over to the publications team to help here for a while. He is working on a project we have to digitize all of Gurudeva's cassette tapes... some of which go back nearly 30 years. Our goal is to digitize and transcribe every word of Gurudeva that was ever recorded.
Today Niraj finished up his seva in the Ganapati Kulam by working on the web version of Living with Siva. He made great strides taking the raw HTML output from the book and placing it into web pages. You can look forward to see this on line in a week or so.
Niraj will be taking up employment with Deutsche Bank and after spending a month at home, be sent to London for training for two months, after which he will be deployed, we know not where! We want to thank Niraj for coming and serving so diligently and to his parents for letting him come. Niraj has been reading Hinduism Today since he was 12 years old and has been very inspired by his stay at Kauai Aadheenam. "I can't believe that just 20 monks do so much, it is really amazing!"
Over the retreat Arumugaswami, Sadhaka Adinatha and Sadhaka Jivanandanatha went to visit Mark Comstock in Anahola who is running a Neem tree plantation.
Mr. Collins imports Neem oil from India and has been selling Neem leaves and bark for several years. And finally after years of cultivation, this year he will begin producing his own organic Kauai Neem oil.
This tree if famous in India for its medicinal properties and its oil is also finding usage as a non-toxic pesticide for farmers.
Neem flowers.
These seed pods will harden and then can be crushed to produce oil. Our investigation was to determine if Neem trees might be a useful tree to grow on our Himalayan Acres property. Well, as it turns out to produce the seeds in abundance they need a dry climate so the Aadheenam area is not so suited for mass production of neem products.
Our team was very impressed by the inexpensive by very effective giant tent structure that we may also adopt to protect our equipment.
