It was a jubilant day when the capstone of Iraivan arrived on Kauai. the full moon day of June 15, 2000.
Gurudeva's legacy lives on... listen to this wonderful testimony from a young man at university in Australia, whose mother and father have been devotees of Gurudeva since he was just a boy...
"I am very pleased to find that everything is going well at the Aadheenam, by the grace of lord Ganesha. I am very proud to be a shishya of Gurudeva and Bodhinatha. It is always a pleasure to wake up and do prayers and believe in them. I am proud to say that Saivism is not an academic religion, one cannot simply read books and say that one knows the religion. Saivism, as being taught by Gurudeva, Bodhinatha, Swamis, Monks and the Elders in our church, is a way of life. I am very grateful to be born where I
have been and to be have been able to practice this religion.
At the present moment I am not studying as my course is over, but i will restart my studies very soon.
I hope that everybody is fine at the Aadheenam and that all is going well, as per Lord Ganesha. I would like to thank you to have written to me.
Send my deepest regards to Bodhinatha and all the monks at the Aadheenam.
Aum Namasivaya"

Mr. Arumugam Sinnan and family from New York visited us today. They were on a cruise that docked at Kauai's Nawiliwili Harbor for the day so they made their way up to the temple. It was their first visit.
Study and listen to learned people and our primary scriptures, the Vedas and Upanishads and other holy texts. This guides us to become more spiritual people. But it is listening, more than reading, that is meant by this practice, for listening is more powerful. As Yogaswami said, "It is not in books, you fool!" Rather it is through hearing that the more subtle forms of knowledge are passed from the knower to the listener, from the teacher to the student. This happens most potently when the speaker has had spiritual experiences.
Bodhinatha continues with a second subject on the importance of the Guru in our religious lives.

The Sinnans had a wonderful tour of Iraivan Temple, the grounds and finished up with a meeting with Bodhinatha.
Thank you, Sinnan family, for sponsoring another Lotus handrail and thus helping build Iraivan Temple -- a wonderful spirit for someone who is discovering Iraivan Temple for the first time.
Our mother of Sannyasin Natarajnathaswami, Mrs. Johnson, has been visiting today with the whole extended family of her other sons, their wives and children. Here they are in the publications building
The fascinating site today was the Wailua River in spate, full and rushing, thanks to the very heavy rains we experience last night. There was a spectacular lightening show going on most of the night with truly torrential rains... which we really needed.
Our big binoculars are wonderful for viewing the mountain.
The Alakai swamp at the top of Mount Waialeale is filled from the down pours and is draining....
We can see the many falls from here.
One can imagine seeing a similar site in the Himalayas
The story of Lord Siva catching the falling waters of Ganga in his hair is a living reality here...

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. April 13th. Greetings, everyone from cyberspace. We are very happy to be able to talk to you today.
Toronto, Canada has a question. "What is the difference between puja and yagna?"
Yagna is usually a group ceremony around a homa fire. Either the priest is conducting the homa or fire-puja, putting sacred substances into it or in a more relaxed situation, the entire group is participating and putting sacred substances and chanting and singing sacred songs.
A puja is generally done by an individual in front of a shrine and does not have a fire burning in the middle of the temple or a great hall. Puja can also be done personally.
"How does a Westerner find a guru?"
Well, first of all, the Westerner should make himself the same religion as the guru, so he is not on the looking in through a glass window. He is on the inside participating in understanding by making a full religious commitment.
We are very happy to be here today and we want to bring in another portrait in Shum. kam-sat-yam-ne, which means a mountain-top consciousness. We look at the world as if we were on top of a mountain, problems being very small. If we look at the world and the problem from the base of the mountain, the problem seems very big. sim-shum-be-see. ka-eef. kam-sat-yam-ne.
That is the meditation today. Feel the power of the spine. Be aware of being aware. Then, open your inner eye and look out down upon the lower minds and you will have clarity and you will find shanti, you will find peace.
Be back again tomorrow, everyone.
Aum Namah Sivaya. Aum Namah Sivaya. sim-shum-be-see. ka-eef. kam-sat-yam-ne.
