"From the pinnacle of consciousness, one sees the harmony of life. Similarly, from a mountaintop, we see the natural role of a raging ocean and the steep cliffs below--they are beautiful. From the bottom of the mountain, the ocean can appear ominous and the cliffs treacherous. When through meditation, we view the universe from the inside out, we see that there is not one thing out of place or wrong. This releases the human concepts of right and wrong, good and bad. Our benevolent Lord created everything in perfect balance. Good or evil, kindness or hurtfulness return to us as the result, the fruit, of our own actions of the past. The four dharmas are God's wisdom lighting our path. That which is known as evil arises from the instinctive-intellectual nature, which the Lord created as dimensions of experience to strengthen our soul and further its spiritual evolution. Let us be compassionate, for truly there is no intrinsic evil. The Vedas admonish, "Being overcome by the fruits of his action, he enters a good or an evil womb, so that his course is downward or upward, and he wanders around, overcome by the pairs of opposites." Aum Namah Sivaya.

Bodhinatha is working on the Dancing with Siva Youth course, which is coming along well. You will see this in the not too distant future in the form in colorful PDF and a multi-media formats.
Study and listen to learned people and our primary scriptures, the Vedas and Upanishads and other holy texts. This guides us to become more spiritual people. But it is listening, more than reading, that is meant by this practice, for listening is more powerful. As Yogaswami said, "It is not in books, you fool!" Rather it is through hearing that the more subtle forms of knowledge are passed from the knower to the listener, from the teacher to the student. This happens most potently when the speaker has had spiritual experiences.
Bodhinatha continues with a second subject on the importance of the Guru in our religious lives.

Today is a most auspicious one as the team completed the production work on the Hinduism Today October-December 2003 issue. Sannyasin Arumugaswami and Sivakatirswami have been "sweating it out" as we de-bug the last few files.
Arumugaswami holds up the cover of the new issue that you will see about 45 days from now. The lead article is on Hindu Hospitality.
This article is a good example of the global network that is behind the magazine. The words are by our New York correspondent, Lavina Melwani, but the photos were taken in Bombay by the wonderful agency there, Dinodia. They actually rented a house, models and a model coordinator for a day long shoot in India, just for this article.
Tonight in a 10 hour long transmission over the internet, Sivakatirswami will "ship off" the files to Banta Publications, our printer, to their printing plant in Kansas City Missouri.
Meanwhile when Arumugaswami is not working on the magazine he is focused on the development of our Himalayan Acres land across the river from the temple. One major project that he and Sadhaka Adinatha have been spearheading is the planting of Ironwood trees for windbreaks and natural fence lines. The state will give small seedlings to us for 30 cents each, but if you want to plant 5,000 trees, that's still a cost of $1,500.00 dollars. So, Arumugaswami has taken some seed pods/cones from one of the trees and is experimenting with a small "plot in a pot" to test sprouting these tiny seeds in the recommended bed of just sand....

Title: People Running Away from Situations
Category: Relationships
Duration: 4 min., 11 seconds
Date Given: April 18, 1999
Given by: Gurudeva
Today at Kauai Aadheenam. 18th of April. Greetings, everyone! We are so happy. We are having a beautiful day here at Kauai Aadheenam.
We have a question. This is a controversial question, one with an easy explanation. "Why aren't women allowed in temples and shrines when they are having their monthly cycle?"
It is because of the blood. It applies not only to women but would apply to men also if they had cut their hand or cut their foot. Or children, if they had cut their finger. They would not be allowed into the shrine or the temple. Why is this? This is because every good situation or spiritual situation has a negative situation around it. They are called asuras. These are low-minded astral people that are attracted by blood. They are not attracted by fruit and flowers, as the high-minded devas and Gods are. I hope this answers that question. Hinduism is very reasonable. This is not only practiced in Hinduism, but also in the Shinto religion, Buddhism and all through Asia. It is well understood.
Many people are running away from situations, without facing those situations. They spend time and energy even denying that they exist. These kinds of people try to meditate to get away from something. That is not a positive kind of meditation. Now what do I mean by running away from situations? Situations between people and people. mental arguments between people that can never be won. Holding hard feelings against other people, without letting them go and realizing that it is all in the experience of life itself. Whatever happened to us is our own creation. I have said that so many, many times over the last 50 years, it is amazing! To understand intellectually is very different than to understand experientially. We have to experience *the law of karma* for ourselves. To run away from the situation without solving the situation, without making amends, without harmonizing the prana flow of energy between us and others, or between us and ourselves is detrimental because it creates more karma.
Now in a small village in India, it is impossible to run away from a situation. But, in a large country like the United States, you can move to another city, get a whole new group of friends and start life all over anew. Pack away the problems in the subconscious mind and wait for them to remanifest because that which was not solved is still festering within the mind and will remanifest. Just give it a little bit of time and the right circumstances. Those of you whom this applies to, in cyberspace, listen again and again and again. If you do speak another language, listen to this message in your own language.
We will be back again tomorrow, in our Cyberspace Ashram. So happy that you pushed that button and tuned in today.
Aum Namah Sivaya!
