Bodhinatha is working daily now on editing pages of the new Island Temple magazine... which has only two weeks left in production before going to press.

Bodhinatha's Sun One Video. Most Recent update: September 12, 2003. Bodhinatha speaks on Ahimsa, noninjury, yama #1, which is noninjury in thought, word and deed. The law of karma decrees that it is wise not to harm or hurt others, for we will then receive harm and hurt in exchange in the future. 12 minutes, 29 seconds.

Here Bodhinatha meets with Shanmuganathaswami and Sadhaka Jivanandanatha, in the on-going process of passing over and training them in the financial administrative duties he himself has been handling for several decades.

Another clear day and a classic view of the crator of Mount Waialeale... Some of the monks this afternoon went to a new "Sunshine Market" opening where local farmers will be offering their produce to the community every week on Tuesdays at a local soccer field not far from our temple here in the Wailua Homesteads. Yogi Mahadevan gave a special blessing to open the new market. Silpi Chinnu also went along to see the local produce.

Mr. and Mrs. Bachmann, father and mother of Paramacharya Ceyonswami spent another morning with their son and chatted with some of the other monks. They have really enjoyed their stay in paradise. The monks also loved to be with them. "Mom" and "Dad" are in their seventies but look 2 decades younger, showing off the radiance of their good natures and lifestyle... an example to all of us. Come and visit us again soon!

Coconuts are an important resource in Asia, but hardly utilized on Kauai. We are going to change that in the years ahead as the monks have planted over 2,000 coconut trees on the Himalayan Acres land. When mature, it will be the largest coconut plantation in the state of Hawaii.

Ceyonswami takes his mother and father for a tour.

A bit fuzzy but what wonderful colors... Gurudeva used to describe certain inner areas of consciousness as having the color of "violet fading into yellow" or "purple fading into violet." Those descriptions sometimes seemed "far out," but if you do one of the sadhanas he prescribed you will see such things around you... "Go for a walk, just observe and identify as many colors as you can."

Two spiritual seekers: Lemurian souls from Palo Alto enjoying darshan of the Wailua River and Mount Waialeale. Sadhaka Haranandinatha hosting.

Fred and Marielle Faieta from Coloma, California. They've come to Kauai to visit their daughter Brigette who is a yoga teacher here on the island. She's brought them to the temple for her 20th birthday today. Fred and Marielle are the head of the Coloma Outdoor Discovery School which is geared toward primary school children. (7,000 per year, in fact.) Designed to develop an ethic of stewardship and community within each student, the Coloma Outdoor Discovery School curriculum encourages systems thinking, problem solving, communication, leadership and group support skills. Meanwhile another exciting happening is the arrival of commissioned artwork from Bali and India. This is the fruit of a long series of efforts, planning and communications on the part of Paramacharya Palaniswami, Yogi Japendranatha and others of the Ganapati Kulam. Here is I Wayan's amazing rendering of the San Marga Sanctuary in a "Disneyland" aerial map style. This is the left half of this incredible painting on canvas. On the left is a depiction of the Wailua river and steps leading up to Iraivan and in the foreground the various parts of the monastery landscape have been rendered.

The right half of the painting, showing the stream and pools that flow through the San Marga sanctuary.

This is another outstanding aerial view from a different artist, A. Manivel, which looks down on the Iraivan Temple and surrounding gardens from across the Wailua River.

Our agricultural endeavors continue... Here is an experimental plot of sun-hemp that is a crucial soil revitalization plant much in demand by farmers. Our plan is to grow it, harvest and sell the seed to help support the costs of maintaining the Himalayan Acres. Sannyasin Arumugaswami, the managing editor of Hinduism Today is also heading up this effort. In this plot, which is on the monastery land, he has fertilized different sections, put lime on some and left others with no amendments. Surprise! in the foreground the plants are 5 feet high, growing 2 inches a day! Success....

This little flower will produce a small seed in the days to come.

Sannyasin Sivakatirswami who helps Arumugaswami as do others, has taken a few rows along the sides of the plot and planted the famous Indian "ragi" which is a red millet, beloved by Lord Muruga and one of the oldest grains known to mankind. We are interested to see if it is possible to grow a little bit of our own grain, just as we grow fruits and vegetables. So far the Ragi seems very happy.

Going down the garden where less additions were made to the soil, the size and vigor of the plants falls off.

Here at this end, nothing was added to the soil at all.. and the plants responded accordingly... which is barely growing at all.
