Sadhu Paksha Day Ten:
We are back from a 3-day retreat... Here's a little story. Several years ago, Gurudeva asked Natarajnathaswami to teach a young man in the monastery, who could not read English, the basics of Saivism from Dancing with Siva. Natarajnathaswami is also quite and artist and to aid his classes he prepared 155 pieces of art work and simplified the answers to the 155 questions posed in the 31 Mandalas of Dancing with Siva, Hinduism's Contemporary Catechism. But, that's not the end of the story....

Kalamandapam, Sri Kandaswamy Temple
Scott Road, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
7:30pm to 9pm
Bodhinatha will be giving vibhuthi blessings after the event. Those who attend will also receive a free copy of the new Island Temple magazine.
Recently, Bodhinatha edited this work which is now called "Dancing with Siva, Youth Course" and we have put it into the form of PDF's as well as an interactive computer style presentation slide show, that is really "cool." Check it out! We posted this to the web just yesterday. Click to go to the Dancing with Siva, Youth Course. Note, these are quite large files so be prepared to go for a chapati break when you start the download. 😉 But it will be well worth it. If you are an educator, with a projector and screen, this will make a great teaching resource for seminars with young people.
Bodhinatha's Sun One Video. Most Recent update: September 12, 2003. Bodhinatha speaks on Ahimsa, noninjury, yama #1, which is noninjury in thought, word and deed. The law of karma decrees that it is wise not to harm or hurt others, for we will then receive harm and hurt in exchange in the future. 12 minutes, 29 seconds.

After several weeks of wet weather the cloud devas went off to play over the sea, and we got a semi-clear day today.
Early morning coming out of the temple with the sun over our backs to the east....
This amazing flower from a bromeliad plant is really giant... nearly two feet long!
And the soft coloration with little sets of petals coming out on the tips... a thing most precious to behold.

Current Overview |
Steady progress continues at the Iraivan site as the team is working on course 21 of the Vimanam. Meanwhile down below we are looking forward to the day when the capstone of the Vimanam is raised up...
In order to lift this 12-ton rock up 60 feet or so, our crane man requested that the hole in the center be enlarged just a bit to take a heavier cable. Here we see Sankaran and Adaickan drilling through 1.5 feet of solid rock.
Sankaran holds a chisel and Adaikan hammers with all his might.
Sankaran then rotates the chisel just a few millimeters and Adaikan hits again. It's a two-man drilling operation that is thousands of years old!
Here we are at the south end of the temple, where the entrance will be as pilgrims walk up from the river.
Off to the side, tool storage tents and shed...
On the West side of the temple is a sitting area... under the rudraksha trees. From here one gets a great view of the temple from the side.
The vimanam is taking shape even from a distance.
Walking up to the side, we have a better view of the vimanam course that are above the roof line.
Meanwhile stepping back in time, with a three-day retreat before us, it was time to tackle a bee hive that had moved into the attic of the publications building.
This meant putting on our bee suit and opening up the ceiling.
Wow! It turned out to be a huge colony! We extracted about 75 pounds of honey and moved the brood into a box and put this outside the building... Our camera man didn't want to stick around to say hello to the bees as we took apart their colony.... it was a successful operation... as you will see tomorrow.
