We had a number of out of town guests today for the Sun One Homa. They all came forward after the puja for vibhuti.

Bodhinatha's Sun One Video. Most Recent update: September 12, 2003. Bodhinatha speaks on Ahimsa, noninjury, yama #1, which is noninjury in thought, word and deed. The law of karma decrees that it is wise not to harm or hurt others, for we will then receive harm and hurt in exchange in the future. 12 minutes, 29 seconds.

The early morning hour in the temple is so full of inner light, one doesn't even feel that it is still dark outside.

Yogi Mahadeva begins the homa...

Lord Hanuman and the sacred kumbha pot presiding.

Sri Rudram chanters.

Agni was high this morning as Bodhinatha must have placed 100 pages or more of prayers into the fire sent by devotees from all around the world. We get a lot by email, print them out and send them to the temple.

Mr. and Mrs. J. and Radha Sharma from Pasadena, California sat up close to the homa.

Mr. Sharma's friends wanted him to go to India for special 60th birthday homas. But, he wanted to come to Kauai instead. To his surprise, he ended up as guest of honor at our Sun 1 homa.

Om Sivaya, Svaha!

Aum Sivaya Svaha! The Sharma's were founding members of the Malibu Venkateswara temple in Southern California, and have been reading Hinduism Today since the days when it was called "The New Saivite World."

Meanwhile over the retreat the monks were busy with projects out of the office. Acharya Kumarswami is working on the renovation of some of the monks' facilities and putting a new router to work making these beautiful corner pieces. This is a model for one of these which will be done by Kanda Alahan as a karma yoga service to the monastery in his fine cabinet shop in California.

Current Overview

As we mentioned last phase, the Siddhidata Kulam did the amazing work of raising up the scaffolding and "zip lock" roof top of the Iraivan Temple Vimanam work site. Take a look at the picture in the banner above to see where we were. Then look here and see how far up it has been raised.

The very peak of this intricate tent structure is just above the height of the final capstone.

We witnessed today the opening of the top and our crane was here for more lifts of stones to the work site aloft.

Loads of sand were also hoisted.

Sannyasin Yoginathaswami calls down with instructions. The team above is so high up now, he needs to add some volume to get through to those below.

Sadhaka Nilakantha, now back from his year of training at the organic farm in New York is on the job... Silpi helper Kumar on the right.

A small stone being raised.

Sand, in coming.

Yoginathaswami guides the cables into the center of the work area. His head is about the height of the final temple which will be about 37 feet high.

Progress, day by day.

Larry Conklin is a busy man. He's on call quite a bit for a large variety of jobs, from holding up cameraman cages during on location movie filming, unloading heavy equipment from open containers, to lifting stone up for Iraivan. He is really proud of his work with the temple and considers it a rare privilege to have this opportunity to participate in such a high-minded project.

Another successful day at Iraivan. And a successful 2003! The team will sleep well tonight!

Indian Ocean Monastery
Gurudeva's spiritual center in the island country of Mauritius
in the Indian Ocean near South Africa

And the big news from Mauritius is that the Saiva Siddhanta Church Mauritius Mission has received another new member in December. A new baby boy was born in the Sivakumaren and Kavita Mardemootoo family at Cap Malheureux on the north coast of Mauritius. Congratulations to the happy parents!

Here is new born Jayendra Manoharan Mardemootoo. Welcome Jayendra to planet earth! Here he is just after his namakarana (name-giving ceremony)!

Kulamata Sornumbal Mardemootoo is very happy to hold her grandson in her arms. Jayendra will no doubt be a very cherished child along with his two elder sisters.

Kulapati Sivakumaren invited all kulapaties and kulamatas and members of the Mardemootoo kutumba for a dinner on that occasion. Lots of fun at the table!

The grandparents now have a new one to take good care of. Jayendra is really surrounded with love and affection in his new home.

Kulapati Sivakumaren taking care of his guests. Special dishes were prepared on that occasion.

Here is Tiru Parameshvaran Ramsamy and Tirumati Indranee.

This is Kulapati Mougam Pareatumbee and Kalamata Saranamutha from Flacq.

Tiru Sivaneswaran and Tirumati Venilla from Malaysia. Venilla is sister of Kulapati Sivakumaren.

Kulapati SK Moorghen and kulamata Moilavadee from Rose Hill

The children too had a wonderful time playing hide and seek near the swimming pool.
