Gurudeva in meditation in front of a Shum "portrait" or word.
In Merging with Siva, Gurudeva wrote, "Thought and matter are synonymous. They have only to be seen in this way to be understood as such. From the external area of the mind, matter seems to be separate from thought. However, from the central, internal perspective of the mystic, thought, energy and matter are one."

Today Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami worked hard to bring the accounting department completely current so as to function smoothly during his absence. He is training Sadhaka Jivanandanatha to handle the complex account of the Church and works closely with him each day.
This morning we listened to a tape recording of Gurudeva just before he went off on the last Innersearch program in 2001. He exhorted the monks to hold the vibration strong and clear while he was gone, and think about the Innersearch study program every day.
Bodhinatha's Sun One Video. Most Recent update: September 12, 2003. Bodhinatha speaks on Ahimsa, noninjury, yama #1, which is noninjury in thought, word and deed. The law of karma decrees that it is wise not to harm or hurt others, for we will then receive harm and hurt in exchange in the future. 12 minutes, 29 seconds.

2004 Indian OdysseyJanuary 19, 2004 - February 5, 2004 |
Paramacharya Palaniswami consults with Sannyasin Saravananathaswami a few moments before departing for San Francisco with Sadhaka Dandapani. In front are the carefully marked boxes of material for the Innersearch program which will depart in two days with Bodhinatha and the five monks flying directly from Kauai to Asia.
It's ten am sharp and Paramacharya Palaniswami and Sadhaka Dandapani are off to the airport for San Francisco. There a last minute check, "show your passports," that is a tradition of Innersearch, because one time there was a big send off, and one person was indeed missing his passport.
It is not often that Gurudeva's swamis are in California. All TAKA cyber-cadets and family and friends are warmly invited to take part in a special function to welcome Paramacharya Palaniswami, one of Gurudeva's most senior monks and editor-in-chief of Hinduism Today magazine, on the occasion of his visit to the San Francisco area.
Palaniswami will present the fascinating story of the fully hand-carved, granite San Marga Iraivan Temple on Hawaii's island paradise - an icon of Hinduism's beauty and strength. It is also an opportunity for all students and cyber-cadets who visit our daily "Today at Kauai's Hindu Monastery" chronicle website to share your questions, thoughts and inspirations with us. Your presence is indispensable, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Current Overview |
Our intrepid cameraman braved the heights of the 23rd course to update everyone on the temple's progress. At this stage, the vimana is quite narrow, just eight or nine feet on a side. The careful jointing and finishing work continue.
Sannyasin Yoginathaswami has been working with Sthapati all week to neatly arrange the stones on site. They are preparing for the next crane life in a few days as well as taking inventory to inform the Bangalore site of what stones need to be shipped next. It is quite a coordination effort. Usually the carving is taking place within a few feet of the temple assembling, not half-way around the world! Good communication is essential.
Here Sthapati arranges three of the potugai stones for the crane. These aren't being put on the vimanam, rather he is taking advantage of the crane's presence to turn the delicately carved stones over for more jointing work. Otherwise the three-pointed stones are very awkward and difficult to turn over by hand.
These are sections of the jalagam "windows" which are in the corners of the temple. The openings aren't very big, just at the corners of the square with the carved lotus. But they do let in light and air, plus these floor to ceiling carvings help provide lateral support to the temple structure, something important as Kauai is subject to very rare, though light, earthquakes.
