Nandinatha Sutra 117:
Supporting Religious Observances
Siva's married followers all encourage their spouses to ardently fulfill sadhana, religious service, meditation, yoga, ritual worship, festivals and pilgrimage. They never discourage such noble expressions of dharma. Aum.
Ramamurthi and Lakshmi Iyer visited today from Lake Elsinore in Southern
California. It was their first visit to Kauai Aadheenam. Originally from
Tamil Nadu they were overjoyed by seeing the construction of a Chola style
temple on Kauai. They had much to share and talk about with Shanmugam
Stapathi. They also had a nice meeting with Bodhinatha. They are have retired now and are now interested in spiritual life. They were married at Chidambaram and loved our Kadavul Temple here. They wanted to come back every year for a pilgrimage and to perform some karma yoga while they were here. "This temple is so powerful! When we stepped in we could just feel it so deeply."

Another Hindu couple, Ranvir and Veena from Fremont, California, that attended the morning Siva puja... the stream of visitors is definitely growing steadily.
The ever lovely Wailua River....
It is Ashram Sadhana day here at the Aadheenam and all the monks are busy cleaning, organizing and catching up things of old in disarray.

2004 Indian OdysseyJanuary 19, 2004 - February 5, 2004 |
Day 20 of Innersearch was in Chennai with a trip to Kanchipuram to visit the famed and beautiful temples of Kamaskshi, Ekambaranatha and Kailasanatha, renowned for their beautiful carvings.
It was also an important moment as Bodhinatha gave Samaya Diksha today.
Here he is "tuning in" before giving the initiation to Mr. and Mrs. Nellaiappan of Chennai, long time sishya of Gurudeva and members of Saiva Siddhanta Church.
Kanchipuram is a very ancient spiritual center in South India, once a stronghold for Buddhism in the South and later the set for the fifth of the Jagadacharyas of the Adi Sankaracharya line.
The present Sankaracharya of Kanchi is, His Holiness,
the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Mutt, Sri Jeyendra Saraswati Swamigal. This is one of the most important leaders and monastic institutions for all of Hinduism.
The traditional greeting at the temple.
Ekambaranatha is the temple for the element earth among the five renowned Elemental Siva Temples.
Michael McNeil from Georgia
Joel Knepp, Ohio
Kailasam Sinnathamby, one of Gurudeva's sishya in Malaysia and long time dynamic leader of the "Natchintanai Group" which is a team of young people who uplift the community in many ways, primarily by fulfilling Gurudeva's instructions for "Tirukuttam" which is going around from house to house, singing songs and bhajans to uplifts everyone.
Kailasanatha temple is quite old and made of a sandstone mortar and interesting in a historic sense.
Here is Clive Roberts from the Netherlands, husband of Puvaneswary. He's really enjoying the amazing architecture.
Ganga Sivanathan (formerly Jennifer Harvey) who, with Bodhinatha's help, chose her new Hindu name during Innersearch... from Australia.
Kailash Dhaksinamurthi, our every dependable and tireless support man for all travel matters. Thank you Kailash!
Jutikadevi Sivaraja, from Atlanta Georgia
We saw many colorful birds in India.
One feels an ancient spiritual force in these hallowed precincts of Kanchi.
That's all for today's events in the morning at Kanchi. Tomorrow we will report on the big public events of the evening.

2005 Indian Odyssey
The 2004 Indian Odyssey was a great success. Ninety pilgrims spent 21 days together with Bodhinatha in Malaysia and South India. Our next Himalayan Academy Travel Study Program is planned to be a 10-day cruise on the South side of the equator, with ports of call in New Zealand and Australia, and events with local Hindu communities there. We expect this to be held in the fall of 2005, in October or November, depending on ship routes. There have been three Innersearch cruises, all very focused on classes. If you would like to get to know Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and Gurudeva's remarkable metaphysical teachings first hand and explore the Hindu spiritual tradition with Gurudeva's monks and with others on the path, start saving now to join us. Send a message to our coordinator, Sadhaka Dandapani, to put your name on an advance notice list to make sure you get details as soon as they are out. |
