Cooking With Chinnu

Over the retreat, several of our monks joined Chinnu in the kitchen for a short cooking tutorial in his professional style. Our monks plan to have future classes as well. This time, our master chef taught our monks how to make a wonderful Sambar.
First, Chinnu boiled the dal for about 45 minutes, then he adds his chopped vegetables
While that is cooking he can temper his spices before adding them
The smell of cumin, mustard seeds, curry leaves, tamarind, hing, sambar powder and more fill the air.
Chandran takes notes to later be sent to everyone
Next, Chinnu adds the spices and work a little more magic involving salt.
A beautiful and tasty dish is the result
With Chinnu here our monks only cook on retreat days, but they are happy to have a new recipe to try when they do.
