Milling Progress
January 29, 2014Recently Acharya Kumarnathaswami has been working hard to mill wood so that it may be saved and used for future monastery projects. With the help of Jnanideva, the wood from a large monkeypod tree was cut. Monkeypod is a wonderful dark wood that is often used for carving. The monastery was gifted these giant logs, which came from a historic, island tree that was cut down last year.

Jnanideva measures the thickness of the boards

It really is a beautiful wood

These logs are huge and can barely fit on the mill

After being cut the logs are stacked to dry

The team also made \"stickers\" to be used when stacking wood, ensuring airflow which helps to avoid rot or termites

These logs have to get cut before they\
ll fit on the mill'

you can see how big the log is compared to Acharya

Another successful stack of a very prized material
