Chola Style Pots for Iraivan Temple
January 31, 2014As you know, the team in India is working hard on the perimeter wall, that 480-foot-long granite wall that is regarded as mystically important, protecting the subtle energies of Siva's abode.
But you may not know that they are also working on some 50 granite pots that will sit atop the wall. Today we got this report from Jiva Rajasankara. Read the captions to learn of the process.

Here you can see the pots from a distance.

Close up showing them resting on the perimeter wall. Yes, they will have plants in them.

The raw stones have been delivered to our carving site from the quarry.

They are run through the giant diamond-bladed saw and cut into cubes.

The carvers them make them 12-sided as a first step to being perfectly round.

Then they grind off the corners. They are allowed to use these grinders as the wall is technically outside of the temple proper.

They are polished, bringing out the amazing color of this rose granite.

Then finished. They will make a strong statement as they surround the temple, filled with tropical beauty, and bringing something green into the compound. To everyone in Bengaluru, good job!
