Sadhaka Jayanatha Becomes A Natyam
November 21, 2015On the auspicious occasion of Skanda Shasthi and with the blessings of God, Gods and Guru, our Jayanatha takes Natyam vows. This marks the acceptance into the trials of the pre-yogi path. The elders of the monastery have approved of this young monk moving forward in his mission at the aadheenam.
"When the days are dark and the days are light, the Natyam does not give up his inner fight."

Satguru with the sadhaka in our Guru Peetham. The holy place of all vow taking.

Prostrations to the holy guru is made before vows begin. This marks a bond that can not be broken.

Acharya Kumarnathaswami reads from the vow book. Acharya holds this position for every monk taking vows.

Read after me...\"For those who have begun their postulant training and whom Bodhinatha has qualified as potential candidates for the dharma of the Saiva sannyasin, Saiva Siddhanta Church offers the pattern of the postulant natyam.

\"The natyam is provided training and discipline to prepare him to one day receive the staff of tapas, which signifies more intensive yogic practices. \"

\"The postulant must be naturally inclined toward a life of renunciation, devotion, yoga and meditation. He must possess mental and physical strength and vigor sufficient to sustain the challenges of tapas. He must exemplify the qualities of the true disciple as found in the sacred scripture Guru Gita.\"

\"The natyam (literally \"dancer\") works diligently toward the ideals of purity, selflessness and humble service. As the Saivite Shastras say, \"The sadhakas seeking deeper admittance into the monastery and those in yellow could fulfill each duty, were punctual, accurate, refined, serving long hours, performing their tapas and were as spontaneous as a six-year-old child in their happiness and response, yet transparent\"\"

\"The natyam know Lord Murugan, Lord Skanda, Lord Shanmuga-nathan and, by His ancient name, Lord Ceyon, and with Him go into an inner game of introduction to His Father. And to be a son like Him, you must renounce the world and worldliness. \"

\"This is one of the finest natyam dances. Oh, he is dancer of life, for he has forfeited a happy family, a contented home, for his inner quest.\"

\"He has forfeited wealth, the fulfillment of personal desires when the desires most need to be fulfilled, as the perfect dancer would when devoted to his art.\"

\"The natyam tunes the nerve system of his body into his Guruji to serve the Saivite religion in years and centuries to come. \"

\"When the days are dark and the days are light, the natyam does not give up his inner fight. This is his most sacred dance, his mad dance\"

Brothers come forward to greet this new Natyam in their midst. Who is he? What is he like? Where did he come from?

The Naytam here are now four strong. We live inside, at Kauai Aadheenam.
Come and visit and see this dance. We are in this kulam, that kulam, it is our romance.
Seva, laughter, light, abundance, the arrows in our quiver. All we want is to be the ultimate giver.
The order is strong and stronger still. Our job to make it over-fill.
We fire the lamp which holds all light. We shine like the Sun that follows every dark night.
