Planting Noni Trees
February 9, 2016Over the recent two day retreat, Acharya Arumuganathaswami, Natyam Nandinatha, Natyam Jayanatha and our hired worker Doug, all worked to plant 288 new Noni trees in our field on the other side of the Wailua River. We currently have over 700 trees already grown and producing fruit. The soil of this new field has been properly ripped by a huge bulldozer to break up a hardpan left from 100 years of sugar planting which was stunting the trees. Hopefully this will ensure healthier growth for this new set of trees.

We start at one end of the field and work our way across

Nandinatha (behind the bag of fertilizer) is mixing various forms of organic fertilizers for each tree

Doug then deposits the mix and digs a small hole for each tree

Jayanatha then plants the tree and places a weed-mat around it to stave of the guinea grass

Arumuganathaswami is a helping to plant the seedlings too, while also placing the trees and weed-mat next to each hole.

Slow but steady progress

The day was a success, with three full rows planted

On another note, we recently spotted this Mantis on a flower. A somewhat rare sight on Kauai.

And we end the day with a violet sunset. Aum Namah Sivaya.
