Taskforce Seva
April 26, 2016Jnanideva Cevvel flew to the island from Edmonton, Canada, to spend three weeks on Task Force, helping Acharya Kumarnathaswami with the Media Studio's soffit, which is the last super-major project yet to be completed on the newly renovated publications building. This involved milling, shaping and finishing hundreds of camphor wood boards.

Each piece was run through woodworking machinery a total of 9 times

Three passes through the planer, two through the table saw and 4 through the shaper to make the tongue-and-groove joinery

Eight to ten camphor tree logs (received from north of Kapaa, where twenty acres of forest was cleared for a housing project) had been milled by Acharya 6 months ago and set up to dry in anticipation of this spring production

Three piles of stickers lumber were turned into one solid pallet of finished boards, some 600 square feet in all

This winter, karma yogis will hopefully once again grace our midst to install this lovely material on the soffit of the Media Studio, covering up the bare rafters

Most Taskforcers might not realize the amount of help they give by spending just a few days here is extremely beneficial for the order of monks. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
