Media Studio Soffit Project Finished

We welcome you to enjoy this short story that took many moons to complete. Large projects at the monastery take much effort and a small village of selfless servants to get it done. Thank you to everyone who has helped and will help in the moons to come.

The cladding of the soffit of the Media Studio began about 18 month ago. In August of 2015, Kumarnathaswami milled about ten camphor logs into 1x4s and set them up to dry in three piles to dry in the tropical breezes.

In April of 2016, Jnanideva Cevvel flew to the island from Edmonton, Canada, to spend three weeks on Task Force, to help in the milling, shaping and finishing of the tongue and groove lumber.

Each piece was run through woodworking machinery a total of 9 times. Three passes through the planer, two through the table saw and 4 through the shaper to make the tongue-and-groove joinery.

Three piles of stickers lumber were turned into one solid pallet of finished boards, some 600 square feet of finished boards.

In November of this year, 2016, Jnanideva returned on task force with Aditya Vinadhara (a ceiling hanger by profession) to install the lovely material, covering up the bare rafters.

Jnanideva and Aditya worked together for three weeks to install the soffit and did a beautiful job. It is truly a remarkable part of the project, perfect down to the smallest detail. The timing was perfect; they completed the work just prior to the day of their departure.
