A Look Into Iraivan Day

Each month the mathavasi of Kauai Aadheenam get together and perform a group outreach sadhana called Iraivan Day. The other 3 weekends of the month is Siddhidata day where we all work outside together. However on Iraivan day we work inside on everything Iraivan Temple related. Here is a quick look at what we have been doing for decades.

Nirvani Haranandinatha is the steward of Iraivan day and many Iraivan related things

Image

Haranandinatha not only manages Iraivan mailings, but spends his sadhana periods filling little bags with vibhuti; he fills thousands of them a year

Image

Together, Haranandinatha and Yogi Rajanatha fill a few to show how exactly these little bags of prasad get to you donors. Each bag is another mantra, another way to say thanks and yet another opportunity to focus the mind.

When the day finally arrives we all gather in the Guru Peedam for envelope stuffing

We stuff about 1500 newsletters, if memory serves

From the printers at the Pilliyar Kulam to the Guru Peedam, the envelopes are stuffed according to a filtering system developed by those doing this long before

Some people are shocked when they visit the monastery and see the swamis working. Our swamis work hard, orange robes or not. Gurudeva left no stone unturned when he developed his monastic order. Swamis work all day and perform the same seva as the younger monks, in fact they are the best at it.
