Quartzite Platform Finished
May 30, 2017It's done! The golden-hued platform that will be the stage for a thousand years for our silpi bronze master works is completed. The 35-foot oval is nestled amid mature palm trees about 200 feet North of Iraivan Temple. At its center is the massive, 9-foot-long raw stone, quarried from the same mountain as the temple itself, but not carved.
This Summer the bronzes will one by one take their place on the stage, creating an outdoor workshop that pilgrims can explore to see how the temple was constructed.
The raw stone shows the drill holes used to cut the rock out of the mountain.
Notice the small indented entrance step at the front.
Here you can see (barely) the two flat circles on the top, where Gurudeva and the architect will stand.
To the North is a pond and small island shrine.
Quartzite is hard, so hard in fact that it gives little footing for things that like to grow in the tropics, mold and lichen for instance. So, it was chosen for this job to allow for low maintenance over the decades.
