Concord's Shiva-Murugan Temple
September 11, 2017Kauai's traveling monks visit our old temple, purchased by Gurudeva in 1988 and converted from a Catholic church to Hindu temple-monastery complex.
On this day we enjoyed Muruga's darshan, along with a surprise Shivalinga abhishekam.

We arrive at the temple entrance ready for the Vel. Yogi Rajanatha is visiting for the first time and Paramacharya has not been back to his old stomping grounds in many years.

The two priests on duty for today present the welcome kumbha and loudly chant some powerful and piercing mantras. Wow.

A Ganesha arati for the monks and devotees. The 10:30am service is about to begin.

Before the Murugan abhishekam begins, Anand Sivacharya welcomes back Paramacharya. They know each other well.

The milk kumbha being blessed

Palani Muruga, the renunciate, is the main deity of the temple with the Sivalinga being in front and recieving the liquids only after Muruga

Gurukkal chants in a profound way, almost a verbrato style with many vibrations in the chant itself. Gurukkal is Pilliyarpati trained.

Both Saiva Siddhanta church members and local devotees of the temple

The curtain closes for cleaning and redressing. Sishya begin to sing to Lord Kartikkeya.

After the puja, Swami is honored in the genuine and traditional way

Paramacharya then surprises Gurukkal with a Kauai Aadheenam rudraksha mala

Downstairs in the education center a founders shrine was built and is cared for by Devi Param each week

A short puja is done by the priests and Swami performs the final arati

Outside is the old school buildig where we once taught dozens of children growing up in the church. The temple and side buildings are all in the process of being moved so the buildings can be taken down and rebuilt.
