Celebrating Skanda Shashti
October 30, 2017Just following our 2017 Mahasamadhi celebrations we observed Skanda Shashti. It is one of the year's major Muruga festivals and a powerful time for sadhana and inner striving. Many devotees were still on the island after Mahasamadhi observances and were able to partake in the festival, creating beautiful decoration for the temple and helping out any way they could. The monastics performed an abhishekam to Lord Muruga and the event was followed by a powerful silence in the temple, enjoyed by thoroughly by those remained after the puja for meditation.
Vel Muruga!
Hinduism today is a religion of today and tomorrow. It is not just a religion of history books and yesterday. Our religion gives us strength today. It is a religion which worships one Supreme God, with vast scriptures that prescribe the worship and illumine our minds with knowledge about the one Supreme God. Never forget this. Never forsake your Vedic Hindu Dharma, but fulfill it, and you will be rewarded, generation after generation after generation. Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami

\"The moon, sun and fire are in unison radiating their resplendent effulgence. Radiating the luminous sparks is Murugan, who lights up the world by His peerless light.\" - Kathirgama Pura

\"The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him—that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free. \" - Swami Vivekananda

\"Sight is very powerful. Sight is the first connection made with the Deity. The sight of the murti in the temple inner sanctum stimulates and enhances the flow of uplifting energies, or pranas, within the mind and body. Each Deity performs certain functions, is in charge of certain pranas. Seeing the Deity there unfolds in the mind\
s eye a like image and prepares the way for deeper blessings and devotion.\" - Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami'

\"To give love is true freedom; to demand love is pure slavery.\" - Swami Chinmayananda

\"In the heart of those who recount His name, He reveals His gracious feet. Thus He appears to those who chant the hallowed name Murugan. He stands immanent in all.\" - Tirumurai

\"If we put into practice the little we know, that is enough. We will come to know everything in that way.\" - Satguru Siva Yogaswami
