Sri Lanka Innersearch 2018: Ancient Village
February 24, 2018A report from the road:
Aum Sivaya from Sri Lanka!
Today's main activity besides classes was an ancient Sri Lankan village experience. We were transported back 1000 years.

It first started with a ride on bullock carts. Satguru leads the way.

They are charming, but also slow and bumpy.

On the way a peacock greeted us, an auspicious moment!

From cart to canoe, we head to the village via water

You\
ll find this variety of coconut in every rest stop on the roads in Sri Lanka, complete with a man and a very sharp machete ready to open it up for you.'

We arrived at our location and Bodhinatha then gave a class in this thatch hut.

After the class they gave a demonstration on how they create the thatch roof, how they de-husk rice and how they create rice flour, all with simple stone and wooden tools.

She gets rice, pounds it, a few of us try it out, but have less success than she did, and then she goes outside and tosses the rice in the air. The wind takes away the husk and what you are left with is rice ready to cook!

Then we had a beautiful lunch, everything handmade and cooked in the ancient way on a fire stove. Lunch was served on a traditional lotus leaf. Here it is traditional to eat on a lotus leaf, not a banana leaf says Thondunathan.
