Media Studio Conference Room Table - Part 2
October 1, 2019Tracking the progress on a new table for the Media Studio conference room.
Twenty seven pieces form the top of the table, roughly 4x4 inches square.
An earlier stage, choosing the order of the pieces for the best look and keeping with the lengths we cut a year ago on the saw mill and laid up to dry in the library container (dehumidified).
Jnanideva Cevvel and Aditya Vinadhara back again this year to help complete the media studio, working with the pieces.
The pieces started out averaging about 35 pounds each. After milling to size they will be about 25 pounds. That times 27 is still 675 pounds for the table top.
Ordered and marked, 1-27.
We wetted the wood to give a sense of how this Formosan Koa wood will look with finish applied.
A tiny chamfer will highlight the jointed edges of each piece
At the combination machine, keeping everything neat and in perfect running order. The team has made many small repairs and shop improvements over the last two weeks.
A middle step, the pieces were jointed on one side and then planed in our thickness planer. Next is ripping one edge straight and then ripping to uniform width.
A sample of the end treatment of each piece: inset copper sheets with blue patina. More on this in a future slide show.
A 3-D model of the table created by in Sketchup.
This is the top view with dimensions for each piece.
