Media Studio Conference Room Table, Part 3
September 29, 2019This is part three of our work report on the construction of a new table for the conference from of the Media Studio, the monastery publications office, HQ of the Ganapati Kulam.
Jnani and Aditya here are making adjustments to our compount miter saw workstation to ensure that we get perfect 90 degree cuts on the ends of the table segments.
We ran the individual pieces through jointer, planer, saw and the drum sander, followed by fine tuning for glue surfaces with a scraper plane. Lining them up in order, we then evened out the bottom and top surfaces with a large Makita belt sander, 80 and 120 grit.
Finished with this group, flat, coplanar and smooth.
All the pieces lined up together, again, now in a more refined state.
Lots of marking, measuring and labeling on masking tape.
You can see on the far right side the fair-curved profile taking shape with fine tuning of the offsets, establishing a centerline and transferring measurements to the opposite side to determine the exact length to cut, following the old saying, \"Measuure seven times and cut once.\"
The is the jig we made to cut the shallow recesss in the end of the pieces with a router. The brass template guide rides on the inside edge of the square opening in the plexiglass.
Presto, a perfect recess on a test piece after hours of setup. We now repeat the process 54 times.
Aditya continues determining final cut lengths, and making the cuts on the compound miter saw, while Jnanideva carefully sands by hand the ends of the recessed timbers.
