Renovation of Bodhinatha's Ryokan
October 9, 2019Upstairs in the Aadheenam building are the Guru's private quarters. An area that was completely remodeled from the base members to new rooms by the monks and taskforcers just after we purchased the property in 1970. It includes a bathroom, dressing room, bedroom and gathering areas, where only the monks are allowed. Through the last 50 years, termites have had their way. Now we have to work hard to preserve the structure. The Guru's private area is called the "Ryokan", based on the Japanese style that Gurudeva liked. Inside the Ryokan we have taken apart and replaced the ceiling and walls of the northwest sides. We hope to have it complete but Bodhinatha's return for his Jayanthi.
An old dark wooden finish is removed. This area also had very little light. Bodhinatha likes a brighter view.
Ganesha presides over the renovation.
After the old members are removed, we replaced everything with new, treated lumber.
The next step was staging the supplies
Sadhaka Tejadevanatha and Yogi Dayanatha made an assault on the second floor with the caterpillar lifting the supplies which they hand carried inside. It was quite a job!
He has the whole place done in one day!
Next day he feathers all the joints with \"mud\" , making a flat surfacel
Then it takes a day to dry
Then today he comes to texture the wall before painting
It is typicall to apply texture over sheet rock, before painting. (To Be Continued...)
